    Default Veritas base plate/table insert

I am wondering if the Veritas insert Veritas® Base Plate/Table Insert - Lee Valley Tools is somewhat on the too thin side at 6.35mm thickness ( 229 mm dia), even if it is phenolic.
Most other brands use 10mm thick plates, although, are not circular in shape.

    G'day Zelk,

My first comment would be that it doesn't look like it takes rings to account for different sizes of bits. An example would be a panel raising bit which is about 70mm dia and sometimes you want to have the bit just poking its head about the phenolic insert.

    I wouldn't want one.

I agree with your point, nevertheless, is 6.35 mm thickness a little too thin considering the the screw holes need to be recessed ?

but I always like more than less. Especially if you have a heavy router I'd be happier with the standard 10mm insert over 6.35mm so there's less/no possibility of flex. To the question of countersinking the screws into 6.35mm I'd think way too thin as it won't leave for much meat to hang onto.
