Default What to see at wood shows

I am in the process of producing material to be presented at a local wood show.
What do members expect to see at a demonstation on the use of the router when they attend the various wood shows?

Over the past 20 plus years I have been suggesting that router users learn new techniques with the use of the template guides and I have conducted workshops to introduce new routing techniques with the use of the guides.

Are there any others on the forum who use the guides? I would be interested in what projects they produce. My latest project is to produce dining room chairs with the router as the main tool. I would have produced dozens of jigs and templates to produce the various sections of the chairs. It was a great challenge producing a most rewarding result. enclosed are chairs under construction.

There is more that can be achieved with the router if the template guides are used, Over the years I have submitted photographs showing some of the projects that can be achieved with the router in the plunge mode.

There has always been a great interest in the router table which is an important method of using the router, but once the machine is placed in the table mode permanently the limit of projects have been restricted.

I would suggest to router users to investigate what can be achieved with the router in the plunge mode and if you wish to contact me I would be only too pleased to send details of projects completed in the plunge mode, projects that is not possible in the router table.

Enclosed are a collection of projects which would be impossible to produce in the router table in MHO. Have a look at some of the samples that can be achieved with the use of the Template guides.

You may want to look at what Hugh Dundas aka Rocker has done - make a CD/DVD of your jigs and a talk through video demonstration, then offer it for sale.

A lot of people seem to take more notice of what they pay for than what they can get for free, and it could not hurt to get paid at least for your expenses even if you don't make a 'profit' big enough to buy a packet of chips.

    Thanks for that
It's Funny that you have said that, in the past I have given practical demonstrations and I was limited to show how versatile the router is with only a few projects. So you have confirmed what I thought was a good idea
I would be interested in what others would like to see when they go to see a Demonstration.

Hi Tom, perhaps a suggestion might be more about the innovation of design and creation of templates to aid in producing the desired outcomes in Woodwork.

People mostly want the easy option ,however if it is shown that with some forethought the creation of templates will always aid in whatever approach to your WW is necessary.

I have been thru the Yarloop Steam Museum (a great example of wooden templates)and have been shown the multitude of templates of all manner of design used in the steam loco manufacture industry in days of yore and this is where folk can be made aware of the value of templates.

As you have promoted and also shown examples of your work with templates in the past perhaps some and emphasis on direction in guidance to template manufacture?

    Cheers
