Default Woodpecker TLR Phenolic Plate & Triton TRA001 problems

    G'day,

Is it my luck that the Woodpecker TLR Phenolic Plate specifically drilled to suit the TRA001 Triton doesn't match up the to holes in the router for mounting?

    Anyone else had this problem?

Now looks like I have to carefully work out a template, check twice for accuracy before I tap new holes in to the Phenolic Plate.

I make things, I just take a long time.

I used the black router baseplate, stuck with heavy-duty double-sided tape - no problem.

I have to drill a Kreg plate for the same router at some stage. The Kreg comes with a clear platic sheet like an OHP transparency with sets of concentric circles and corner diagonals marked. There suggestion is to line that up with plate so that it is concentric with the clearance disc openings and tape down, then position the black baseplate from the router over that so that it is also concentric, fix it with tape, and use that as a drilling pattern.

Personally I dont like it as a concept as there are too many variables which can accumulate to provide an excenricity of 1mm or so when using template guides. I am considering making a stepped circular jig, one side set at a neat fit in the clearance ring opening and the other (concentric) side marked out to match measured layout pattern of the router base screws. Then hopefully the router will be mounted quite accurately and template guides should be very close to concentric with the mounted bit.

A third approach is to lay out to moderate accuracy, drill oversize holes and counterbore the top side. Then using pan head screws to mount the router, you should have enough scope to move the router relative to the template guide to get them concentric, then lock the router in place.

I just noted your reference to tapping new holes in the phenolic plate. If you are screwing from the top of the plate (flush mounted countersunk screws or pan heads slightly below the surface in counterboared holes) into the router base, you need clearence holes in the plate, not tapped holes.

Hope that gives you a couple of ideas.

Waldo, are you saying that a Woodpecker plate supposedly drilled for the TRA001 doesn't take the TRA001?
Never heard of that before, mine fitted perfectly.
Shouldn't you report that to PWS?

Yep, doesn't fit at all. I wanted to find out if it's me or a thing that's happened elsewhere. I'll give PWS a bell on Monday.

1 holes fits out of four, but all would be handy.

I wasn't going to rush in just yet and tap new holes in the plate, I had to do it for my TR12 and a Woodpecker plate, with exacting measuring I was able to do it. But, like I wrote above I'll talk to PWS first.

Yeah, router does tend to hang better that way!

Unusual, I suspect you got one drilled for a different router.

BTW both the TRA001 and the MOF001 fit in the same holes.

And thanks for the link Aussie, that saves measuring if I end up needing it. Dj mentioned when he was around that the MOf001 (whichever one that is) and the Triton shared the same holes.

I had that thought too, in the box is a small bag saying some screws suit for a Portacable router, also had a bag for the TRA001

    Default Waldo, Waldo Waldo....

    Hi Waldo

Give us a call!! The Triton Plates ex Woodpeckers are marked PC7539 or similar, as the little Taiwanese guy who made the Triton routers found it easier to 'borrow' the hole patterns from the PC routers rather than come up with his own??

    The Woodpeckers plate is bored with 9 or 10 holes;
    1. 4 x tapped holes for the Starter or safety pin
    2. 4 x counterbored holes to mount the router to the plate w/- 1/4"-20tpi machine screws.
    3. 1 or 2, 12.7mm holes (depending on batch) that line up with the plunge post position, to facilitate fitting the Router Raizer.

All that said, you can check the layout HERE.

Whilst we're closed at weekends we usually monitor E-mails so always try us that way if you have a problem.

    Regards

    Grahame

    G'day Grahame,

I didn't want to pester you unnecessarily until I knew for sure I've got the wrong plate, which I only unpacked Saturday morning and I only work M-F, so I didn't want to ring/email or harass you out of normal hours either.

Just checked the plate, it's got 4 tapped holes for a router and 8 levelling screws with 4 holes on the underside in each corner, Plate is marked TLR1.

I'll give a call on Monday.

Fantastic service, monitoring the board in case one of us has a problem. If only other suppliers where as good.

    Default Oops, oops. Oops...

Apologies Waldo, we stuffed up!! The plate we sent you was the 'undrilled' version for all the other routers out there.

We'll get one on Courier in the morning and you can return the wrong one next Saturday at the Incra thingy.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Regards

Great customer service Graeme, imagine a supllier that gives such service in the weekend AND actually admit that they stuffed up (instead of all those phoney excuses we so often hear).

    Well done, great outcome

    Thumbs up

I'll second what Sturdee and Big Shed said about great customer service.

That's okay Grahame, things happen and it's not something that I would sleep over myself or work myself up about. I was going to use the router for some rail and stiles, but as always my shed-gonna-do-list-today is always a mile long and I didn't get half done what I had hoped to do, I never do and nor has it stopped me from doing other components.
