    Default worksmith router bits

I received a surprise in the mail yesterday, a pilot mate had posted me a boxed set of 20, 1/4" shank, gold painted 'Worksmith' router bits. Although very grateful for any gift (although somehow I think I'll be paying "in kind" for this 'gift'!) I initially thought it was a cheapy set but I soon realised that the TCT's were thick AND, on the larger and complex bits, the TCT's were skewed to about a 10deg shear angle, something I don't normally get with my beloved CMT bits. The bearings feel ok and the manufacture quality appears high.
Does anyone know anything about 'Worksmith', I haven't noticed them in any of the mags?

ive never heard of them and my gut feeling says be careful. generally boxed sets of assorted bits in quantities over 5, maybe 8 are generally poor quality from what ive seen. the other warning sign is the 1/4" shank, not generally what i woudl buy given a choice.

the carbide may appear thick but is it any good? a lot of new bearings might seem good too but will they last the distance??

Hey Doug, the 'gift horse' bits worked very well in the short test I was able to give them today. Obviously I can't tell how long they'll last but at least the TCT is thick. The skew angle gave very good results on end grain work and possibly a better result than my CMT bit although the CMT's 1/2" shank made me feel safer. I'll ask my mate where he got them from. Hope you had a good weekend, Fletty

Hi there, Worksmith is an in-house brand for a chain of bulk-buy supermarkets called Costco in the US. I got the same set given to me as a Christmas present from my American girlfriend's Dad. I think the set cost around US $40 to $50, as I saw it there when I was over there visiting recently.

So far so good. Costco has a great warranty policy so they wouldn't let poor quality stuff sell in their stores. They look pretty good.

Default things that people believe in

At certain times of their life people tend to believe in certain things until they gain more expereince and wisdom. at some time in my life i have believed in all of the following, and more, but i have found all of them to be false hopes:

    1. santa claus
    2. the easter bunny
    3. the perfect woman
    4. get rich quick schemes
    5. good quality cheap power tools
    6. good quality cheap router bits
