The Things Yer Find when yer cleanup yer shed
The Things Yer Find when yer cleanup yer shed
Theres me 3/4 built CNC router,
I havent seen the works for a few years as it became a junk storage area.
Unfortunately I didn't find me hvlp gun hose which is what I was looking for.
The whole contraption is built inside a large mdf clad steel framed box which has a 100 x 50 x 3mm rhs main frame. The top is framed with angle iron.
The roof is framed with 70 x 35 pine @ 300 centres. It will have doors across the front to prevent stray dust & noise problems.
The xy cutting area is about 1300mm x 800mm.
Though I designed it to fit a 2400 x 1200 sheet through the front opening
I started planning and building a cnc router about 1982 or so.
struck probs redesigned and restarted it twice.
Originally it was going to handle a full 2400 x 1200 sheet but I had to scrap that idea as it just took up so much room and my shop in those days was twice the size I have now.
The 1st pic is the main works showing the x axis rails.
It has 3 gmc routers which can be selected through the software.
Behind the rails is room to fit a TR12 and an angle grinder.
The worktable below is an old hospital bed with rise and fall. Its manual but could be operated with a stepper . This means there will eventually be 7 different Z axis.
2nd pic is the x axis drive motor 350 oz in at a 2:1 reduction
It is chain driven.
3rd pic is the y axis motor somewhere around 1200 oz in holding torque. It chain drives a countershaft so that eaxh end of the carriage is chain driven. Due to the width of the x axis it is necessary to drive both sides to bprevent racking and binding.
The y axis rails are solid 1.5" bright mild steel
The x axis rails are 50mm x 2mm RHS.

Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

The worktable is setup for vacuum clamplig with 3 removable top sections
I expect to build jigs into the tops so by just changing the tops it is rejigged fast.
I should be able to machine a complete dining chair in a single setup
(not including and woodturning).
I estimate it should take 6 to 8 minutes to totally machine the components for each chair.
As it takes about that same time to assemble a chair theorectically that means I could produce 7 or chairs per hour.
But then theres the stuffups etc to consider.

Well many have talked about it but here is an actual real one.
