    Default 150mm to 125mm (6" to 5") reducer.

As mentioned in an earlier thread I am in the process of installing a dust collection system. The PVC pipes and fittings arrived today. Have ordered the clearvue gates. However, I need one of the above reducers. Have not been able to locate one. Does anyone know if such an animal exists, and if so where they can be sourced.

I use some thick plastic sheet and form a 300mm long cone between the 2 pipes, then cover it all with gaffa tape to hold it in place, been there for 8 years with no probs.

Thanks Neil. In the absence of anything better turning up that may be the option.

    Default Eximo ducting

I brought a galvanized eximo 6" to 5" reducer from Blackwoods for $73.
Pricey I know but it is a option.
The first one they sent was poorly made, so I refused to accept it.
    The replacement was acceptable.
The Eximo reducers have a turned up flange on each end made to couple with their ducting but that can be removed with angle grinder.
They are not as pictured in the Blackwoods catalogue as they have straight sections above and below the reducing cone.
Of course there is no guarantee they will mate with your PVC fittings.
So why did I bother posting this ?

You may be able to get something suitable from a heating/cooling/aircon place. They have gal. 6" and 5" straight joiners so may have reducers as well. Generally cheap too!

Unfortunately, from my experience trying to use reducers etc from the heating/cooling/aircon industry - the inside and outside dimensions of the HVAC industry's ducting is not the same dimensions as the PVC plumbing pipe that most of us are using for Chip & Dust Extraction. I ended up buying sheet metal Air Con Ducting 6" to 5" reducers from Bunnings. Using a hand made crimping tool, I was then able to crimp the sheet metal fitting so that the diameter was reduced enough to fit the PVC Pipes. I used a silicon sealant to join them, and also wrapped the joints with Duct tape to make sure I had a good seal.

I used the reducers from Bunnings because they were a slightly heavier grade of sheet metal than the one supplied by an AirCon Ducting place in Brisbane. The lighter grade fitting is much easier to crimp and fit, but the first time I ran the Dust Collector with all the gates closed, the light grade reducer collapsed under the vacuum load.
