    Default 150mm blast gate concept

    Hi All

Going to make some 150mm blast gates.
I have come up with a design using readily available floor flanges.

Please feel free to give some feedback.

The spacers and sliding paddle could be made of PVC, acrylic or aluminium I guess.

I also thought the use of spring plungers to produce a positive lock when open or closed would be handy.

    Cheers

    that should work.

    Looks similar to this.
This is a 100 mm gate made from the inside circles of PVC left over from making 6" gates
No floor flanges were use just accurately turned 102mm holes (on a WW lathe) and PVC glue.

This one is made using home made floor flanges and melamine.

Looks like you beat me to it!

    Default 150mm blast gate concept

Well I finally made some blast gates using floor flanges and poly carbonate sheeting. They seem to work good enough, although it would be nice if the floor flanges had a longer collar like on the elbow fittings so that they fitted more firmly onto the pvc pipe.

I also copiedBobs idea of using the waste circles to make a 4” gate. Epoxy seems to glue the poly carb and pvc together well.

    Cheers

All my blast gates with the short floor drain flanges see to be holding up so I don't think there's a need to worry too much about them.

Yeah I think they will be fine, although the 4” one is much more rigid. The poly carbonate very strong much more so than the PVC.

Also I forgot to mention I added shims on the spacer blocks made from the lid of a Chinese container to allow a bit of clearance so the paddle slid easily.
