    Default Another cyclone build update

Last month I had the pleasure of meeting the board via my youtube series on a DIY cyclone build. Although I could never actually endorse my own methods I've posted an update after having gothe ducting up. I'll put the video below. Since this "update" I've 3d printed some adapters and have been using the system on my table saw and router tables (not concurrently) and it seems to work great for my purposes. It's a huge improvement over the shop vacs or the old delta dust collector I'd been using. I've also used it for extended periods to vent smoke from the laser engraver without issue. Anyway, I appreciate the input from the previous posts so I wanted to share what's been going on since. If you're a hobbyist, and generally use only one machine at a time, this MIGHT work for you. Just remember I'm an idiot. But I'm pumped as hell with the results so far. It will inevitably continue to evolve and I've still got some work to get my other machines ducted in. Thanks again, guys! If you have any questions hit me up here or on the channel.

Now that you have your cyclone connected to some ducting and almost connected to some of your machines I suggest it is time to buy a meter that measures PM2.5 μ/m3 fine dust levels like one of these.

When you get one of those please share your readings with us after you have run you cyclone with your different machines attached, say after 10minutes of use and then 5mins after turning off everything, 15mins after shutdown and 30 mins after shutdown.

Your readings could look something like these...

    15-11 Background.jpg
    Background reading outside
    4 PM2.5 μ/m3

    Workshop A - pre-use.jpg
    Background reading in WS
    before work
    1 PM2.5 μ/m3

    15-11 WS-A benchsaw at 0mins.jpg
    Reading at benchsaw
    immediately after use
    33 PM2.5 μ/m3

    15-11 WS-A benchsaw at 4mins.jpg
    Reading 4mins after use
    17 PM2.5 μ/m3

    15-11 WS-A benchsaw at 6mins.jpg
    Reading 6 mins after use
    37 PM2.5 μ/m3

    15-11 WS-A benchsaw at 9mins.jpg
    Reading 9mins after use
    28 PM2.5 μ/m3

    15-11 WS-A benchsaw at 14mins.jpg
    Reading 14mins after use
    8 PM2.5
    μ/m3

And, yes, the readings went down then up again before dropping again. An indication that the fine dust wasn't being captured at the machine port and was being broadcast about the workshop.

Those economy particulate counters are not a precise industrial instruments, but do give an indication in terms of increasing or decreasing PM2.5
μ/m3 levels and how long they remain suspended in your workshop.
    Stay sharp and stay safe!

    Neil

Hell yea. I'll order one. Had no idea this existed at a consumer level. Actually one of my concerns long-term. I'm a healthcare provider, so this kind of thing is always in the back of my mind. Hell, I wear a mask almost constantly in the shop or working in the yard.
