Default Which 2 hp Dust collector ?

Now to decide which 2 hp dust collector to buy .

The ones I am considering are

https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/W394 only on sale until tomorrow !

    http://www.carbatec.com.au/carba-tec...xtractor_c1420

http://www.ledamachinery.com.au/inde...tractor-detail I can find no info on size

http://www.garypye.com/Dust-Collecte...-Bag-p749.html The bigger footprint size is my main concern here

http://www.totaltools.com.au/saber-1.../#.VZDSj_mqpBc again no info on size

    https://www.tradetools.com/product-r...-2-hp-1224-cfm A lot more expensive

If anyone has any experience or thoughts on these options I will appreciate it
    Garry

Yes I have heard that but why does the listed weight vary

On price the Hafco is clear winner but is listed as being 42 kg against most of the similar looking ones as being 47kg

If figures are right where has the weight been cut ?

If you intend to modify it to get a significant improvement in the extraction then you want one with a rectangular impeller outlet but all the ones you have referred to have that.
Just watch out if you buy a second hand in case this outlet is a round (only 5") type.

The next thing is, even though they may claim the same micron rating the bags are NOT all the same - if you intend to place it outside your shed then you want one with the thinnest bag if you are venting inside the shed you want the the one with the thickest bag.

Otherwise they are pretty much the same.

I cant really explain the weight difference.

i think the different white labelers fabricate the weight to throw you off the scent of thinking they are all the same

The advice that I received from an old guy who used to work as a salesman for a major woodworking machinery supplier in Brisbane, was that when they buy these machines from the Asian factory, they can specify quite a few things when placing their order. For example; the gauge of sheet steel to be used in the fabrication, the grade of cloth bag to be supplied, the type of finish to be applied (i.e. painted, powder coated, etc), and sometimes, the motor specs (i.e. is the motor a true 2 HP, or a lower quality "2 HP" motor that will only last a short time if it's asked to deliver 2 HP).

All of those purchasing options effect the price that the Australian dealer will pay at the factory gate, and also explains the weight difference between Australian Brands of dust extractor that look pretty much the same.

    That's my ten cents worth,

I have the carbatec 2hp and find that it suits my needs for chip and sanding extraction from my thicknesser/planer, table saw and drum sander (one at a time). Although I have experienced some clogging at the impeller inlet when thickening black heart sassafras (my thicknesser has only two blades). I use a Festool for finer particles such as are produced when using a ROS. Good luck with whatever direction you take.

I have had a Trade Tools DC for a few years now and it has not missed a beat. It was the best value of them all when I bought it. I have put a pleated filter on it.

I have tested a number of budget type WW machinery motors and they have all been up to spec HP wise. As far a Dust Collector is concerned the motor has to deliver the claimed HP continuously. Unlike other woodworking machinery, the motors on Dust Collector need to develop their maximum HP when they free running as that is when they are moving the most air, which is what Dust Collector motors do most of the time. When a Dust Collector/impeller connected to a restrictive machine or is blocked it's moving less air so needs to develop less HP. Some of the cheaper motors use cheaper capacitor and so may run hotter so long term they may not last as long.

Decision made I ordered the one from Hare & Forbes
Of course I ordered it yesterday while still on sale price
that plus a discount voucher made it to tempting to pass up

I liked the one from GPW but the footprint size is an issue ; VERY limited space
