New 2hp Sherwood wall mount dust collector
Has anyone tried the new 2hp wall mounted dust collector from Timbecon and can share their impression?
On paper it seems like the ideal purchase for a small workshop short on space. I would prefer a bigger 3hp after reading the threads here but after checking them out instore, they are just so big. The cost isn't the deal breaker, it's the footprint that's impractical. Plan B was to buy a second hand 2hp floor model to destroy/do the recommended mods from this forum when I came across this new offering.
It comes with a pleated filter which is enticing but compared to the pleated filter available for 2hp floor model, it seems undersized. Would this negate the small CFM improvement shown with a pleated filter in the testing on these forums? They claim the same performance as their basic 2hp floor model and slightly less than claimed for their redesigned 2hp floor model
Before I pull the trigger, is there anything fundamentally wrong with this design?
In terms of what I will be using it with I currently have a good shop vac which I mainly use for sanding. In the meantime when I have to use my table saw, mitre saw or thicknesser I move out to the driveway and work with the wind at my back. But after this latest heatwave I'm desperate to get back in the garage out of the sun. I plan on adding a jointer soon and maybe a table router later.

Given the stated performance of their floor mounted 2HP standard model is vastly over rated - my measurements show it's about half the claimed performance - I cant see how that design is going to be any better than this and more likely much worse. On the standard model the way the air enters at the side of the bag filter housing generates a some cyclonic separation with the dust/chips falling into the collection bag under gravity, and the finer dust and air going upwards and though the filter. This important features is completely missing on the wall mounted design
What I would also be interested to know about the design is, does the air and dust flow through a tube through the PF section to enter the plastic bag and then turn upwards to go through the PF - if not it's going to clog very quickly. If it does have a tube, what size is that tube.

Other than the undersized filter, having the chips as well as the dust passing through the filter to the bag also bothered me as poor design. Wouldn't that put the PF at risk of damage under normal use?
Found some images. There is definitely no tube in the filter and it has cross bracing blocking the flow similar to the intake port which can't help either.

I am officially dissuaded. Thanks BobL. Back to plan B, either the 2hp modification or reconsider getting a 3hp unit and putting all the machinery on wheels to make room. I wish I didn't need to share the garage with the car!

Hi Egg Born Son,
I think you are right about the foot print. Me and my friends are also thinking of 3hp or more are suitable for even small workshops but usually very large foot print. Thus we dediced to create our own with very small foot print and no conventional filter If you are interested you can check anydust.com and if you are not in a hurry you can wait for it. But if you are in a hurry I think timbecon is not a bad choise. If filter clogging occurs it is easier to clean. And as for my observation clogging is the main reason for performance drop.
