50mm mini cyclone unit does it's job
I bought one of the generic 50mm in/out plastic cyclones you bolt on a bucket or bin to use with the Aldo wet/dry when doing sanding and routing about 12 months ago to replace the previously 3D printed one i had, they had got significantly cheaper and no longer sensible to print one.
I bolted this one to a 55L metal rubbish bin, they are thing enough buckle under vacuum so i had to add a brace in the bin and it still dents in a little in use.
Well today the suction started to drop off a bit so it was time to give the whole setup a full clean, emptied the bin and vacuum and cleaned the filter and motor housing with compressed air (gently).
I had down the right hand end of the bench with 80 grit on the belt sander and was about to put 120 on.

So with a clean bin and vacuum we started this end with 120, did the other end with 80 then 120, run over the whole lot with the ROS, in each case we drew over the entire surface with pencil and fully removed the pencil marks. Felt like forever but maybe a couple of hours.
Considering the belt sander was still leaving dust particles on the timber i was curious just how much was being caught.
Well i'm sure that all those pm2.5-pm10 particles were at levels i don't want to know about but the stuff that blocks the filters in vacuums and annoys the crap out of you if you don't use something seemed to be getting largely caught in the bin first.

You cant see it in the photo but there was a super fine cloud when i lifted the lid. looked like smoke it was so fine so i didn't measure how deep the dust in there was but was a significant amount in there. The wood brace is about half way down as a reference.

The filter was starting to cake with what looked like superfine flour, it wasn't blocked (yet) but considering what was in the bin, the bits in the vacuum and filter wasn't much.
The point of this..... well I at least think that this is far better to do something than the vacuum alone let alone not doing anything at all. The bin cost me more that the cyclone itself but overall it's a great addition to your wet/dry.
Cheers
Phil
