They are a generic brand. It came with 1 pleated filter & 5 foam filters.

    Thanks for the heads-up.

I've got a ShopVac that makes a helluva racket; will give the Aldi a go. Power take-off sounds nifty.

Ern, these things are not 'quiet' machines, that is not why people are buying them. You might want to listen to one first. Cheers.

    ah, thanks Groggy.

Still appears to have the power take off advantage and a better filter system. The SV filter is just a bit of fabric wrapped around a foam collar.

They are a good vac, as I have said in my earlier posts in the link I posted, but they are not a quiet machine and you would be disappointed if you bought it for that purpose. Noise is probably its only drawback. I have sold mine since I got it but only as I managed to get a second hand Festool vac - which IS quiet.

With the Aldi vac I ended up removing the cartridge filter altogether as the bags did a good job and the cartridge just took up space.

    Cool. Thanks.

If it turns itself off I can leave it tucked under the bench and that'll provide some sound deadening.

What NOT to buy from their latest catalogue...

I went through three of them and not one could engage the high-speed gear without an awful crunching sound. Then again, looking at their specifications it's no wonder...!

Bought one yesterday I had no problem with the Hi/Low gear change but then I don't change it when its running Nick.

I was over whelmed by the odour from all the plastic though.

My wife shopped and got my Taurus yesterday.
No stock left at Salisbury store, so she drove over to Oxley on spec. and got one there.
Haven't I got her well trained.

    Neither do I mate.

When stopped and flipping the switch to high gear, and thinking it was engaged, I'd start it and there was a shocking crunch. Not every time but it happened more than once.

Have you noticed how the handle "flexes" under mild stress?

    Good luck with yours!

    Graeme.

    Have just assembled the vac.

It's bigger in drum and motor capacity than my old ShopVac and a bit quieter. Fits under the workbench without the casters but comes with a generous length of hose. With an extension it reaches to my lathe for sucking shavings out of deep hollowings.

The stepped reducer is v. useful. Wish there were two for diff tools though.

I'll get some SV sheet filters as posted by Groggy in the other thread to extend the life of the paper cartridge filter.

Overall it's impressive value, much more so than the ShopVac, but its durability obviously is yet to be tested.
    Cheers, Ern

Noticed yesterday in Bunnings they now don't seem to sell the Shopvacs anymore but have changed to Ryobi. The equivalent Ryobi vac sells for around the $240 mark.

One good thing though is that they sell the cartridges (also Ryobi) for about $28 which is half of what the Shopvac ones were going for.

Durability won't be an issue. For the money, they are damn fine machines.

I have had my Vac for just on 2 years now.I fit shop vac paper bags and have never needed to change the filter. The bags hold a lot less than the bare drum, but it works well for me.
