Default Advice on Carbatec 3 hp cyclone DE (UB-3100ECK)

I have been trying to make a decision on what DC system to buy and have narrowed it down to 2 units - CV1800 or the 3hp Carbatec cyclone (rated at 2,200 cfm). The Carbatec unit looks preferable from an installation and cost perspective however if it does not perform effectively (planning 150mm mains and single machine use only via blast gates) then it is false economy. I have found plenty of info in forums on the CV1800 but nothing on the Carbatec UB3100ECK unit. Does anyone have one of these units with advice on its performance?

You are looking at chalk and cheese here.

Both units are ducting size limited. With nothing connected to them the most they will draw through 6" ducting is around 1250 CFM.
The real test comes when they are connected to lengths of ducting and throttled machinery.
The CV has a bigger motor and impeller and the CT is an old cyclone design which generates a significant back pressure.
All this mean when push comes to shove the CV will outsuck the CT

Thanks Bob appreciate the advice. It really surprises and frustrates me with the paucity of effective workshop dust extraction options available in Australia. When I talk about effective dust extraction I mean the capture of fine dust at source (less than 5 micron). Fine dust exposure poses a significant health risk and yet equipment suppliers appear to be turning a blind eye to this risk.

Unless government brings in regulation on how long a person can expose to 5 micron dust then the manufacturer will not look at this...

Most of commercial extractor aims to take away the dust so it does not affect the machine operation but as to remove the harmful dust that you can't see, needs government to step in.

Some people would disagree with you but it is their health.

Clearvue came to Australia because I had bought a CT Cyclone (first generation) and found it less that adequate so I rang Clearvue and ordered an 1800. I turned the CT cyclone on after installation twice, once to see how it worked and once to confirm it did not do the job. I rarely diss other products so take that for what it is worth from a biased point of view. I sold it to a woodworking club and they were going to fit a three phase motor to increase the impeller speed but I never heard the results. Pat who frequents the wood turning forum may be able to comment on what happened.
