Thread: Advice on HA-1000 Dust Collector

It depends on what you want to achieve.

The HA-1000 is basically a wood chip collector or vacuum cleaner. If that is all you are after and don't care about fine dust then it will collect some chips.

If fine dust concerns you - it is after all the main health issue in sawdust, then the HA will not collect much fine dust and it will continually contaminate your shed. The 5 micron is meaningless because it simply will not collect enough air or fine dust to being with so the filtration rating is pointless.

I suggest before buying anything you read reads the stickies at the top of the Dust forum. Be prepared for a LOOOOOONG read.

Would it make any difference that I’m planning to move around the dust collector to each machine as I’m using it? As opposed to creating a whole shop type setup.

I thought the power on it looked quite good. I will take the time today and have a long read through those posts.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll spend some time today looking at the specs of both so I can properly understand the difference in capabilities.

Not really, Ive tested dozens of small DCs and those in worse shape tended to be those that were towed around to machines inside a shed. Probably because they tend to get bashed and battered and then the leak more than usual. Any DC used inside a shed is asking for trouble because they all eventually leak.


As a minimum for a weekend warrior in a small shed I would suggest a a DC3 to pick up the chips and some dust, and then add forced ventilation to exhaust air through the shed to deal with fine dust.
OR
Modify the DC3 according to the sticky at the top of the dust forum, put the DC outside and install 150mm ducting but only on short rums

Good decision. The HA-1000 is just a vacuum cleaner with an oversize hose. It has a small filter that will clog up in no time at all and moves almost no air even before the filter is clogged. You might have noticed that H & F don't disclose any cfm figure for it.

They hid the cfm just below the main title on the product page haha. As far from the specification section as possible. It's 109 so I'm really happy I decided to post here before buying.

Just buy the dc-3
