    Default Air filter shop cart

    Goodmorning everyone,
I have a workshop / garage of 6.5 meters by 12.5 meters, 3 meters high. A total of 80 square meters, 240 cubic meters.

I have a dust collector system, I wear the mask but I need to improve the air quality inside the laboratory. This way I could take off the mask when I don't use the machines.

I have an air quality monitor, a Dylos DC1100 pro and with this note I realized that the air quality is not good.

I have two windows and a garage door that I open as needed to change the air.

I would like an air purifier but I don't want to buy a ready-made one because it costs too much for what it offers in my opinion.

I have seen these two possibilities, I would like to understand which is better.

I would be tempted for the first option because I would be able to find the fan more easily.

Have any of you done something similar?

Before you spend $$ or Euros, tell us about your dust extractor system.

eg Motor HP and impeller size, longest lengths., and diameter of ducting .

Also what are the sizes and types of machinery you use.

I have a 1.5Hp dust collector. 100mm diameter of the suction tube.

It has a cartridge filter, and a suction power of 900 CFM.
I know it's not that much, but I keep one machine at a time connected to the dust collector, and for hobby use it's pretty good.

I have a 26cm jointer / thickness planer, a table saw, and a router table.

Each time I connect the machine I need to the dust collector, with a 2 meter 100mm diameter flexible hose.

For the drill press and the sander, on the other hand, I have a vacuum cleaner that I connect directly with a 2/3 meter hose.

That's really your problem - the DC and suction tubes are too small hence they will never capture all fine dust where/while it is being made. Trying to then capture the escaped fine dust with a room air filters is then a bit like herding cats.

For s all workshop the minimum DC required is a 2HP that is modified according to the "sticky" thread at the top of the Dust forum to use 150 mm ducting.
The minimum ducting size required is 150mm which moves 3X more air than 100mm ducting.
Machinery ports have to be open up to utilise the 150 mm ducting
Remember, the 2HP modified DC is a minimum, it would be better to go to a 3HP system.
FLexible hose is also much more restrictive than non flexible ducting.
If your DC is located inside your workshop that just makes things worse because all DCs leak fine dust.
Its much better to locate the DC outside (or enclose the DC inside an air tight chamber inside your workshop and vent the chamber outside)
This means using fixed ducting other than hoses.

    OR

You could stay with your existing DC and install significant forced ventilation.
Just opening doors and windows in not enough the air has to be continuously forcible moved through the workshop.
This means using exhaust fans that continuously extract air from your workshop, and air vents on opposite walls that bring fresh air from the outside.
The target is usually to change all the room air between 10 and 20 times per hour.

I see you are in Italy so depending on where you are (eg colder northern region) none of this might suit you as it involves loss of heated air in winter? Here in Australia we have the opposite problem of losing cooled conditioned air in our hot summers. BTW my parents are from Tentino and Venezia.
