Room air filters
I wondered if these things are any good - not necessarily this particular machine, but the whole filtration unit principle? I am finding myself working in a closed workshop as the main door opens onto the street, and I don't want the Great Unwashed viewing the preciouses. DC is decent but currently in the shed - on the list of projects to move outside.

We installed 4 of them (the Jet version, but they're all the same) at work and it made a huge difference to the air quality (measured with eyes and nose, not a particle counter )
We later got 2 of the big Carbatec ones for the CNC and panel saw areas as well.

I hope they do work, cause if they don't, I have wasted about $60 on making one. I looked at those store bought ones and being a cheap scape I thought I can make one of those.
mine is a $19.00 box fan from bunnings , a box made of scraps... um I mean off cuts ... and a negative air filter cartridge for the filter, which is 370mm x 370mm x 90mm thick for $18.00 which I hope to pick up tomorrow.I'm going to hang it from the ceiling on some hooks and 100mm black sewer rubber rings. I'll post some photo's if you like!. I'm also thinking of buying a spare fan.. just in case cheap isn't good.

I used the big Carbatec one in my studio. It was outstanding.
I upgraded to new filters from a mob in Adelaide... fantastic!
(This is the one in storage I'm selling on the FS page tonight....)

I have two of the Record Power ac400's in my shed. The same ones that are in this video. Replacing The Control Panel On A Record Power Air Filter - YouTube
In principal these are great. I am amazed that they do such a good job of cleaning the air.
However, the topic of the video is how to change the control panel in this unit. That is a procedure that I am very familiar with as each one of mine broke down a number of times under warranty due to control panel failure. At first I was taking them back for repairs by the dealer but now they just send me out a new control panel. It's quicker and easier for both of us but still damn inconvenient.
Next time they break down I plan to bypass the control panel and just have them run full speed (I always run them on top speed anyway) without a built-in timer and just plug them both into one power-point timer or programmable powerboard.
I like what they do but far from impressed with the quality and after-sales service of this particular model. I have no reason to believe that the problem is restricted to the Record Power brand ones of this generic unit.I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.
