Aldi modification?
Unpacking the vac I noticed on the suction side the inlet connection is 58mm yet the hose I am connecting is only 40mm. Would there be any benifit in fitting a larger diameter hose?

The Aldi vac that I have will take regular ShopVac hoses as a plug in fitting rather than the outside screw on fitting hose that is supplied - hope that makes sense.
Anyhow, I have fitted a 'Mr. Nozzle' hose as sold by Lee Valley, which is a considerable improvement - not only is it smooth inside but it has about twice the cross sectional area. I believe they will also fit a Festo vacuum hose, which Festo sell separately from their vac.

I checked out the ShopVac hoses, can't see much of an improvement there.
The "Mr Nozzle" sounds the way to go, did you get it locally or buy it overseas?
Carba-Tec have some different diameter flex hose I might experiment with.
What started out as a vac for my wife's oscillating spindle sander looks like being developed into mini system for her dremell, palm sander and scroll saw as well.

I got my 'Mr Nozzle' hose from Lee Valley, Rockler also sell them, all via the Internet from North America.
It seems to be identical to the Festo hose except for the colour - Mr Nozzle is orange/grey, Festo is lime green/grey for the anti static hose (expensive) or all mid grey for the 'regular' hose.

Checked out the Festool hose this morning, not smooth inside and very expensive. The Festool fittings and junctions look about the same size as the Mr Nozzle hose.
Someone imports the Mr nozzle, the Austalian made vac system at the local service station has the hoses fitted. Large diameter and smooth inside, looks good.

I've sent an email off to Mr. Nozzle in the US to ask in they have an Aussie distributor - I'll post their reply when I hear back.

RAPIDCLEAN, sell 38mm ID and 50mm ID vac hose by the metre. ($7 and $15/m resp) it is not totally smooth inside ( small spiral groove) but works well on my industrial vac unit.
Hope this helps.

I checked with Lee Valley who sell a 12' kit ($39.50 USD) and a 24' kit ($69.50 USD) - http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...597,62621&ap=1
The most reasonable shipping estimate Lee Valley gave me was for UPS Express (5-6 business days) - $33.94 USD for the 12' kit and $55.26 USD for the 24' kit.
Even with the exchange rate at 80 cents that makes the total approx $91.80 AUD for the 12' kit and $155.95 AUD for the 24' kit.
For that amount of money I reckon Inventor's suggestion of a local supplier like Rapidclean looks like the go.
Cheers,

Geoff
I rang RapidClean Artarmon (near work) and was told they didn't carry the 51mm hose and if it was available they would only sell in 20m lengths.
I am still tracking down the company that makes the service station vacs.

I have bought the 38mm ID hose from Rapidclean in Newcastle by the metre (a couple of times. They also have the 50mm ID ( they gave me a per/m price) they just cut it off the reel.

RapidClean Newcastle have the hose in stock at $15.85 per m. Now I have to chase up the fittings.
They are open saturday mornings so I might drive up the weekend after the WWWS and pick up 3m, does anyone else want some and if so how much?

Hi Ross,
Thanks for the offer but I think I'll struggle on with what I have now.
Perhaps one of the helpful Newcastle folks who are coming down to the WWS could bring it down for you?
Cheers,
Geoff
