Thread: The most annoying question(s) - What should I do?

I am still using this dusty, but I have moved home a few times since then. it is mounted in a timber frame which allows 2:1 leverage to lift the top drum to allow emptying of the bottom drum. due to frequent moves and rented houses I just move the 4" hose from machine to machine as needed till I get back to my own house. I am about to vent the exhaust side out of the window of the 4-car garage i am currently using as a workshop.

RSG: You might want to consider a similar solution. The power source/impeller is designed for the purpose and the cyclone merely enhances its efficiency at the expense of a very small reduction in suction. Venting the exhaust end out of the workshop and not through a filter bag gives you far more suck for your buck. I've got 6 metres of flexible hose on the intake side and it easily copes with everything thrown out by a 15" planer/thicknesser or any other machine I can ever imagine in my workshop.

Unless I dont understand your situation I think your needs are fairly similar to my own, and this solution has proved to be more than adequate for my needs and is very efficient and cost effective.

I'm not sure how much the little dusty I used would cost today but its probably cheaper than i paid for it 5 or so years ago and 200ltr drums arent expensive either. I just thought it might be worth a few minutes to check it out.

But I'm afraid you're too late The FM-400 turned up this morning (although the package tracking system says it is still in the depot ) and yesterday I went and got a few sheets of .08mm (~23g) gal which I've been cutting up today.

Budget is/was a big problem but I've thrown caution to the wind...and hidden the receipts . I've most likely overspent on the blower as I don't think I'll be using the rest of the FM-400's bits and the 6" PVC is going to hurt if I can't get seconds, but the metal has been reasonable (~$18 per 1600x1260 sheet) and the outcome is going to be worth it I think.

I'm already pretty sure that I'm going to vent directly from the blower to outside, probably into the space under the shipping container that's my workshop. I figure that by doing that I'll save a bit of static pressure and get a lil' better performance.

I'm not sure of the capacity of the drum I'm intending to use. It's a big blue plastic thing a bit smaller than a steel 44 that I picked up from a stock feed place. My only concern about a large container is dumping it all at once, whereas with a small one it's easier to spread out on the grass or compost (depending on what I've been cutting). Not a big deal, just something I'm thinking about still.

Hopefully very early in the new year I'll fire off a thread about the completed build with some progress shots.
