AU beginners first cyclone...
Hi,
I just picked up a used 2hp generic dusty (I didn't buy the filter and I'm going to wall mount the blower), I want to hook it up with a cyclone, which cyclone should I get?
I only use one tool at a time in my small shop and I don't want to get too much in the weeds with airflow. None of my tools has larger than a 100mm port.
I was looking at the H&F CDS-2/3, but I've read about the more efficient Bill Pentz design but it looks like that is a palarva path.
To make it a bit easier my budget is $500.
Thanks.
Richard

AU beginners first cyclone...
Gday mate
As someone who has had similar questions recently I’d suggest go for a browse over to the dust extraction sticky section or a search around, So many people have had similar questions and really good experience and knowledge contained within you should be able to find what your looking for
Cheers

I have the previous model of this hooked up to a 2hp blower: https://www.timbecon.com.au/oneida-d...or-diy-version
I’m very pleased with it. Almost nothing makes it into the pleated filters. I get considerably more airflow than I did with the original cloth filter bag and no cyclone.

I have just ordered the same. Already have the 2hp blower and not happy at all with the filter / plastic bag arrangement on that, so will be modifying it as soon as I receive the cyclone.
I do also have a smaller (Chinese) eBay cyclone connected to a smaller dust portable extraction system. Works well with the router table but not big enough for the table saw / bandsaw / lathe.

I should have mentioned I remodelled the original DE, keeping just the motor and impeller.

I'm planning to do very similar, though I have a steel 44 gallon lidded drum for collection and I'm thinking of simply venting the exhaust to outside my shed without a filter. If the performance of this cyclone is anything like the smaller Chinese one I have, venting to outside the shed won't be a problem where I am.

If you can get away with that I reckon that is the best solution. I heat my workshop in winter and venting outside would suck all the warm air out of the shop. Not an issue in Kalgoorlie. I reckon you'll find the performace of the Oneida cyclone better than the small Chinese ones.

12" impeller. If you're bored, here's the build thread: 2hp DE Build

Received the cyclone this week and have set it up on a 44 gallon drum. Also dismantled the Carbatec 2hp unit that I'm going to use the motor / blower from.
Now I have to strip down some shelves & remove some old drawers along the side wall of my shed to make room to install this unit. Also have to remove the stop/start button and replace with another style, re-located to a convenient position somewhere I can reach it easily.
