    Default Bag changes

I expect I am the last person in the human race to discover the simple solution to bag changing on a DC, but FWIW this is the story.

I have a two-bag DC; Nothing very flash but I have had a real problem in changing the plastic bottom bags. It seems to be almost impossible to do by one person. I say almost impossible as on the first side I did succeed in replacing the bag.

I must have been having a bad day as on the second side I found myself quite unable to hold the bag in place while positioning the metal band clamp that holds it in place. The DC is tucked away in a slightly awkward spot and the main difficulty was sliding the band up under the stay at the rear. I really did need three hands or a second person.

The solution was in the end simple. I have these small plastic spring clamps, for which I have never found an application and I had hitherto regarded as having the same level of usefulness as mammary glands on a bull. I used one to clamp the plastic bag tight onto the metalwork of the DC while I hitched up the band strap. The bags are significantly wider than the metal.

A bulldog type paper clip would work just as well or even be better as I think they are stronger .

Can I suggest you just use a bit of tape? Can stay in place and not interfere with you fitting the band. Shame there's over 2000 kms between us, I I'd zip round to show you an easy way to do it. Too hard to explain.

I use Duct tape, on the infrequent bag changes. Infrequent now, since I put in the separator.

Well, the solutions were everywhere .

I have tape, I already have thirty or forty magnets without having to undertake a 160km round trip to the two dollar shop and I have several of those useless (except for holding up dust bags) plastic clamps.

Thank you Craig for the offer of help albeit impractical because of the distance.

The thing that reassures me most however is that I was not the only person to encounter the problem of holding up the bag and attaching the clamp .

I spotted these while doing the shopping. I think they were about $2 for 6
    Fridge note holders.

If you decide to go this way the additional sealing requirement needs serous attention.

See the "rucks" in the plastic circled in green? My particle detector would show these as significant leaks that would typically contaminate a shed within minutes. These things generate fine dust even when there is no dust being produced by a machine. The swirling action of existing sawdust inside the DC minces large dust into small which literally pours out of these leaks.

This is why locating the DC in a sealed cupboard or outside is the way to go.

Those clamp clippy things are hopeless as an airtight seal even if foam tape or similar are used
A better system is one that uses a tight fitting plastic ring that fits inside the bag housing. The bag is folded over the ring so the positive pressure generated by the DC forces the ring and bag onto the bag housing. Same applies to the Pleated filters. Most PFs leaks at the seal which makes them redundant for the fine dust problem but of course does produce better flow than a regular bag.

I even have some of those except SWMBO uses them on the fridge and she gets, to my mind, unreasonably possessive about these things. In fact she is a big advocate of the saying " What's yours is mine and what's mine's my own."

I can see where these magnetic clips would work extremely well, being a combination of just about all the recommendations so far and I could add a little tape to keep Pat and Craig happy .

I'm glad I don't have one of those pleated bags as I don't have to be concerned . The dusty will go in a special isolated section of the shed exhausting to the outside when I get the new shed.

Thanks again to all of you for the input.
