Adapters for multiple Machines
Hey Guys,
Very green to all of this. Very much an amateur. So in desperate need of help.
Spent a couple of hours at Bunnings today and the staff there were no help whatsoever. I left there more confused then when I arrived!
I have a Ryobi Belt Sander, Ryobi Band Saw, Ryobi Thicknesser, Ryobi Dual Bevel Mitre Saw, and a Ryobi 30ltr 1500w Wet and dry vac for dust extraction.
Now what I went to Bunnings for, was to figure out how I can attach my dust extraction Vac to all of the items mentioned above.
Each item has a different sized extraction hole. Why they don't all come with the same sized hole makes no sense to me. Especially when they are all of the same make. But if you look at the attached pics, you can see the sizes of each units extraction hole, as well as the size of the end of the vacuum hose.
My question is, what is the best way of attaching my vac to each unit when I use them??
I've done a quick search for hose adapters, but I'm unsure of what to get. Ryobi has no mention of the adpaters on their site, so I'm guessing I have to by aftermarket adapters?
There was an adapter that came with the vac (pictured).
From what I was told from the staff at Bunnings, these can be cut the the segment that fits the extraction hole on the machine. The hose end fits perfectly in to the larger size of the adapter. I think if I had 2 of the adpaters, I could use one for the Thicknesser, and one for the Mitre saw. But The Band Saw and Belt Sander have much larger extraction holes.
If anyone here could point me in the right direction as to how to go about all this, it would be truly appreciated.
Staff at Bunnings had no firm answers and I think really had no idea how to advise me.
Thanks in advance for any help/advice

Don't rely on Bunnings people to know much. They typically hire people off the street with minimal to no hardware knowledge and provide very little training.
Places like Amazon have a wider selection
However, I like to try before I buy (plus I don't like Amazon) so I have never bought any so you will have to rely on feedback from others about how well they fit anything. I believe Tonyz has ordered some.
Do search for "power tool dust adapter" in Amazon and you will see quite a few.
Avoid any adapter that uses steps as this stymies air flow - look for adpaters with a smooth transition
Next, no one makes adapters that suit every power tool, you may have to be creative yourself.
This is one method I use (thanks DerekC for photo) I'm too lazy to go own to the shed and take my own photos
The black adapter is a rubber flexible coupling/adapter that allows for the a range of sizes a couple of mm either way.
Some of the adapters will fit vac hoses by simply pushing them on - others may nee to be held in place using a hose clamp.
They cope really well with odd shaped ports like the oval shape on this sander

These adapters are available from Bunnings (see Flexible Couplings - Bunnings Australia) an typically suit larger dust ports (32 up to 100mm). I have squeezed a 32 mm adapter down to fit a 28 mm port, and packed out the outsides of ports by using short sections of PVC molded to fit using a hot air gun.
If you have (access to) a lathe then you can turn your own to exact size from PVC fittings found in the plumbing section. I have made one this to get my Makita belt sander to fit 50mm flexy hose.
If you have (access to) a 3D printer you can make your own to exact size.
There are hundreds of plans for adapters on Thingiverse.

opened these up 30 minutes ago.
quality looks goodconnectors.jpg
piece in very bottom right corner fits onto Ryobi () vacuum cleaner with a twist like motion so should stay in place.
each piece has the same type of thread, the 1 fitted to Festool is very tight and would need work for it to fall off, the other end clips in with the blue ring thingy.
I havent tried fitting to other hand powered tools but they should all be OK.
There are no instructions but us being male work these things out anyway.
Someone mentioned earlier or elsewhere the power cable and hose will get in the way and be the biggest hassle, maybe so, but at least I dont need to grab the vac hose push it onto whatever power tool I am using then wrap duct tape to hold in place.I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

Firstly....thanks for the reply guys.I did see those adapters on Amazon before I made the initial post. Good to know they work. Still need to find ones that will fit the belt sander and Band saw. But I might look in to the 3D printing as well. I haven't got a 3D printer, but always wanted to have a crack with one. They seem to have come down a lot in price.
