I've been there and experienced it first hand.
Not much wood dust though, mainly combustion products, and construction and car tyre dust.

    Good Morning Evanism

Friends with teenage kids have been hosting a couple of Chinese high school students. They were amazed by the night sky - they had never seen stars before!

True. We have amazed friends from Europe mainly because where we live there are no street lights and we have a fair amount of bush around. It is surprising how much of the night sky you "lose" due to light pollution in cities.

Back in the mid-90s we hosted a small team of Chinese scientists for a week in Perth.
I guess things have changed now but for two of them it was their first time outside china and neither had seen the Ocean before.
When we took them down to the beach one of them was so mesmerised he walked into the water in his street clothes and started swimming.
