Bin for Carbatec dust separator lid
Does anyone know the right size bin to go with the Carbatec dust separator lid with two 4in connectors as seen here ?
Carbatec say the diameter of the lid is 530mm, but the diameter of a 44gal drm is 580mm. Also, a 44gal drum would be far too big for my smallish shed, so I am looking for an alternative.
I am open to suggestions and advice
regards,
Jill

Bin Lid
Gooday JillB, youll find those card board type drums with the lid held on by a metal band clamp to be the ideal size---the lid fits spot on they are about the same height as a 44 gal. drum nice and light too.
You will need to search around as they are not as common as 44'sThere was never a time when I did not exist, nor you. Nor will there be any future in which we shall cease to be

If your concern is height, you could always use an angle grinder to cut it down to size. (If you are recycling a 44 gallon drum, check the for a flammable reside before attempting this).
If your concern is the diameter, then you might need to consider other options.

I ended up cutting mine up into pieces, cutting holes in the lid of a standard plastic rubbish bin, and gluing/screwing the 4 in connectors to the standard lid.
PITA, but the end result works OK.

I bought one of these blue polythene bins with the lid that clamps on. then down to the local plumbers for scraps of plastic drain pipe and a tub of PVC glue, cut holes in the top stuck a bit of pipe through with a couple of collars glued on and it all works a treat. total cost probably about $40 to collect about 99% of the dust. Thinking about it again I would be more careful how I fitted the pipes to try for a cyclone effect.

They are pretty much the plastic equivalent of a 44. They sell in the classifieds down here for around $25.00. Tip shop is a good place to have a look for either the cardboard or plastic drum.

Jill, I went through the same search in this thread
Look up drum reconditioners in the yellow pages to see if there are any local to your area.

JillB,
Also try ag supply stores for horseys etc. as feed comes in the blue bins nowadays, or nurseries as fertiliser also comes in them.
I made the mistake of buying the C/tec lid once, and drove straight back for a refund. If you have the lid of any drum it is very easy to make. My thread might help you out:

I finally found a supply of the cardboard bins in Sydney. They are 510mm diameter and can be found at Reverse Garbage for $20. The bins come with a plastic lid and glamp for those who what to make there own lid ports or the Carba-tec lid fits straight on.
The bins have use to deliver some sort of food additive and they get a new delivery of empties every couple of weeks.

In the end, I found a blue plastic bin for $40 by advertising in the local paper. I then made my own Thien dust separator as shown here. Goes well!

Jill
