This may or may not be of interest to someone.

I have recently discovered that my original "dust collection machinery ports" thread was started in 2004! An awful lot of water has gone under the bridge since then, and those of you who have been giving me a hard time for almost twenty years because of the slow rate of progress (you know who you are!) will soon have a heap of humble pie to eat! (possibly! )

Anyway when I first installed my 6" system it was with a nice bunch of cast metal blast gates which had a tapered flange on them (same goes for the 4" plastic ones). Tapered flanges are a beggar to get a tidy fit, particularly when the pipe you are fitting them to is a larger diameter than the largest bit of the taper.

So I've happily made do using a combination of formed pvc spacers, insulation foam (the self stick kind) and lashings of silicone with hose clamps that never seem to stay in place for more than a second. I use the word "happily" advisedly, because every time I've had to look at the ill fitting leaking mongrel things that certainly doesn't correctly describe my level of satisfaction with the job.

All that has changed! With a bit of cad work and a few hours of printing I have built custom built adapters. They are deliberatel a heat-the-pvc-and-tap push fit on the pipe end, and snug onto the gates with a matching taper. I apologise for the poor photo quality, but you can see they are sized to match the internal flange of a pvc joint and match the gate exactly.

All in all a nice neat job - just like the one you get when you make your own gates!

Cheers,

P
