Decided to clean up the shed for New Year. Easy enough with a DC and lots of flex hose and a broom. Problem always is that fine dust that covers everything.

Half way thru the process, had a brainstorm. I went and got the leaf blower after I finished brushing out all the shaving and sawdust. Took the hoses off the DC (fairly big 2HP model) turned it on and went the rat with the leaf blower. Blew all surfaces and tools. Waited a minute or so then repeat process. DC running all the time. After 4 goes with the blower, no dusr, everything pristine. May not work so well with aBIG shed, but my DC exchanges all air in shed 13 times a minute. You should see the shed now - pristine, I hesitate to use any of the tools for fear of getting it dirty again.

Incidentally, I lost two tea towels, one ashtray, a small chisel, Timbecon catalogue, a shower curtain and a tiny block plane up the inlet to the DC in the process. Fortunately, this is not the first time and I left the grid on the DC intake.

Does this mean your shed "Suck's and Blow's",:eek: if so that's a pretty mean feat!...Ha!Ha!..

Bodgy - you've found my favourite trick, in fact it's the major job of my "leaf blower". Just have to be carefull when raising it above floor level as anything light gets blown off the workbench or shelves.

I also leave a fan on full blast at the back of the shed/garage which blows some fine dust out the garage doors as I create it!

Will have to invest in some decent DC stuff this year.

Hmm, as I've removed the grids from the two inlet ports on my dusty (they were forever getting blocked with the waste from the jointer or thicknesser), I'll have to see if I can make up a temporary replacement.

My new shop vac (a Sherwood jobbie) has a 'blow' facility as well the the normal (Al can insert the specific terms here

), so will have to give that a whirl.

I've tried using the compressor air gun, but that just blows everything off the shelves - usually into the most inaccessible places behind the bench

Steve, thats exactly why I left the intake grid in situ. I've lost countless items 'up the pipe', without the grid I would probably have wrecked the impeller and maybe cooked the motor.

The big downside is that I can't use it to collect shavings, as this immediately blocks the grid. I just sweep these out manually. Don't really mind the shavings, its the dust that gets me.

I should resolve the problem when (ever) I get a cyclone built.
