Default Bosch Dust Extractor with Festool Domino

    Hi there,
Has anyone here used the Bosch dust extractors with the Festool Domino? My shop is predominantly Bosch Blue ( track saw, mitre saw, jigsaw, ROS etc ), so I'm likely to get the Bosch GAS 35 M AFC, which is similarly priced to the Festool CT equivalents. But given the Domino is my only Festool tool ( and likely to remain that way ) I guess my preference is the Bosch Dust extractor.

Currently am using a Generic style Detroit brand Shop VAC with the festool, which does work, albeit not an ideal fit over the dust port on the domino.

If anyone has used the Bosch GAS M line of extractors with a Domino, I'd be keen to hear what adaptors/attachments were used to have it fit nicely on the Domino.

    Cheers

    Seb

As a suggestion to save buying another vacuum cleaner why don't you use a 3D printed adaptor. I have a Domino and a 3D printer, if I had the details of your problem and the Bosch vac I could make one or if you knew someone locally to you they could do the same.

You should be able to find the connection size details online of both to see if they fit. If not, a 3D printed option is certainly viable.
I cut it twice and it's still to short.

No pics as away from home but Ive just finished making mods to my Festool sander, Ryobi router & Makita (old) belt sander. These all had slightly different size dust outlets but with a piece of clear plastic hose, a heat gun and few other plumbing bits I can now connect all these to my 2HP dusty

Awesome. Good ideas (never even thought about the 3D printer option). I think I'll go ahead with the purchase, and find a way after. How hard could it be! I know I already have the Shop-Vac, but I'm keen to really filter out the finer dust particles which they don't do so well.

There is a Bosch adaptor (VAC024) which has a small end that will fit snugly on ports meant for 27mm Festool hose fittings like the Domino and ETS sander. The larger end fits a 38mm Shopvac hose, this is the fatter Shopvac and generic vac hose. There is another adapter (VAC003) that will go from the 35mm Bosch hose to the VAC024 if you want to use the VAC024 with the Bosch GAS M.

I wouldn't bother contacting Bosch Australia to get these parts, they don't care to know of them and will tell you either they don't exist or they're just not going to order it in for you.

Another option, but that may not work so well for a miter saw is that the 27mm Festool or VAC024 end will fit inside the 35mm Bosch dust ports. It will restrict the airflow significantly though

A Youtuber in the UK I follow who did a very detailed review of this extractor reckons he uses his Bosch GAS M 35 AFC with the Domino and it worked out of the box with no additional adaptors required. Anyway, I'm going to pick one of these units up on the weekend, so will report back here. Failing that, the VAC024 adaptor sounds like a great option. Thanks Alkahestic!

Oh man, I've given you a bum steer. I previously just had a look at specs and the hose for the GAS M is 35mm but the fitting at the end of the hose looks pretty much exactly like the VAC024 small end. So yea, it should fit straight on 27mm ports. Sorry

Righto - I can confirm that the Bosch GAS M 35 AFC fits the Festool Domino perfectly, straight out of the box without any issue. It also fits all of my other tools as wel - which makes sense, seeing as they are all Bosch Blue! lol.

    Very happy with it!

    Cheers

    Hi Beardy,
I'm loving it to be honest. It works like a charm. I have bought the Fleece Bags for it as well, so I then use it without the Automatic Filter Cleaning feature. That feature I guess is great for if you are extracting grinding/masonry very fine dense dust etc, but with a fleece bag, and for woodworking, the fleece bag does a fine job of protecting the Filter.

Suction is good, the hose length is fantastic, power cord length is great. It's a good solid unit, and so far fits all of my handheld tools - Festool & Bosch blue alike without any problems.

My only concern was the Auto ON feature that you can use whereby you plug in your hand tool and it then automatically powers on the extractor when you turn on the tool - the Australian version only states a max of 1200W, whereas the UK version is 1800W and Malaysian version is 2000W, so not sure why the discrepancy. given the Bosch tracksaw is 1400W, and the bosch router I use is 1600W, it seems an oversight by Bosch Australia in my eyes, but I'm not really knowledgeable enough in these things to understand why it may be the case. I did email them about this, but as yet no response ( I find they aren't all that helpful TBH - but that's another story ).

However, even though 1200W is stated as max. Thus far I've used it without a problem with the Tracksaw ( 1400W ) so perhaps it's a conservative number, and I guess 1400W would be under max load on the saw. It has a fuse/limiter of some sort, so I guess if I draw too much power, I'll soon find out!

FWIW the Festool equivalent is also 1200W rated, so maybe that's just the standard in Australia.

    Overall very happy with it.

Thanks for the feedback, I haven’t seen the fleece covers I have only seen the vac at Total tools and they don’t seem to know a lot about it or have any accessories, did you buy them online or have to order them in?
Do you think the Festool one is superior apart from price ? I like the longer hose you get with it standard whereas the festool unit is only 3 metres long and it is another $300 to buy a longer hose so the price gap widens a fair bit even though there is not much in the initial price point difference

The Fleece bags are here: Bosch 5pk Fleece Vacuum Filter Bag 2607432037 | Total Tools I ordered them online, as I don't think many stores carry them as standard. Only took a few days to arrive.

I have a personal opinion about Festool, and I get that many people love love love them. My view is that some of their tools and consumables are over-priced for what it is. I can't really see how one could argue the Festool CTS-36 is somehow waaay better than the Bosch unit. My view is they are both good, and depends on what the rest of your tools are.

For me, I have all Bosch Blue, and my only Festool tool is the Domino - which, in fairness to Festool is probably my favourite tool, and as far as I know there isn't anything like it by anyone else.

The rest of their stuff, Routers, Jigsaws, Track Saws, and even the fabled Festool Rotex sander have very capable equivalents in other brands - for me, I've found Bosch Blue to be that happy medium between good professional quality and not insanely expensive. The GEX 150 Turbo sander for example would likely give the Rotex a run for it's money ( i'd love to hear from someone who has both to really know ).

Again, it's my personal opinion, and not out to start a Festool/Bosch/<insert your favourite> is better because ..... argument. If someone loves Festool and wants all their tools to be green - you go right ahead.

    Cheers!
