Bosch GLD mitre saw dust extraction
Hi everyone,
I've recently moved house and started to setup the double garage with dust extraction. The overall system still needs a number of tweaks to get it running right. My dust collector is a Laguna Cflux with a 150mm intake running PVC.
Starting to play around with the dust exaction on my 12" bosch mitre saw. So i knocked a very quick hood out of some chipboard and put a 150mm bellmouth hood in it and a cheap plastic blast gate on top.

Without any doors/shielding on the front I'd thought I'd take a slow mo video or two just to see how it performs. The saw still has the original "rubber boot" and swivel port attached and my rubber boot appears to be split (i bought the saw 2nd hand)

you can see in this video that about half the dust and chips seem to make it up to the bellmouth, it kind of looks like the larger chips are falling and some of the finer dust is making its way upwards.
This video shows just how much stuff is bouncing around the bottom and partly back out the front.
So I think the two main issues to tackle are:
1. Put some doors/covers on the front so at least to try and contain part of the dust into the hood its self.
2. Somehow adjust the swivel port to eject more of the dust "upwards" even up on a 45 angle would give a better chance of aiming the dust the bellmouth. Need to make sure it doesn't interfere with the motor or the front cover. May also need to lower the bellmouth.

3. Similar to Bob's thread here SCMS extraction. I may need to get a new ramp and rubber boot to help direct the dust into the boot.
The rear of the bench top doesn't actually sit against the wall, originally I thought I would have to fill this in to try and get a good seal in the hood, I'm actually thinking about experimenting with it open and seeing if it will help draw some air upwards to help capture some more dust.

This is a picture of the area over all and it needs some work. Needs a way to move the gates from the machines up to the trunk line with out having to get a ladder out to reach them (the ceilings are 2.8m high) and will need an extraction fan or two as well.

a) For quick and dirty, get yourself a short length of flex hose, connect on end to the saws dust outlet and shove the other end up inside the bell mouth hood.
b) Better would be to bring the PVC down a bit and replace the BMH with a or 15 or 30º bend and then attach the BMH to that . Now shove the a) hose into a hole in the PVC above the bend - or at the back of the bend.
