Default Where to buy a dust collector?

I'm looking at buying my first DC (around 1200cfm, 2HP) and cyclone. When searching the web i can only find a small few brands and they are the generic style. The ones I have found are-
    Sherwood (Timbecon),
    Carbatec,
    Hafco and
No name unit sold by Roadhug Spings.

Could people please advise and recommend other suppliers/shops that sale different DCs in Australia, preferably in Victoria. I'm not interested in importing nor paying a fortune.

    Thanks in advance,
    Richard.

Putting a figure on your budget would help with recommendations

All of those 2HP units are the same basic design which are limited by the size of the motor and therefore impeller.

I understand you don't want to spend a fortune but you could look at the 2HP Felder, but the performance is still basically the same as the generics. The advantage of the Felder is it will be less likely to leak and have components that will last longer.

The performance of most of the generics can be improved as shown by the sticky at the top of the dust forum

If the brands you've named are a firm indication of your price point you're not going to get anything different from other suppliers. I'm pretty sure Roadhug Springs market predominately Hare and Forbes woodworking equipment.

I'm certainly not in the market for a clearvue or Harvey gyro system but would like something with a bit of quality to its build.

There are no significant differences in the build quality of the smaller HP systems unless you go for something like a small Felder.

I don’t know the full price of smaller ones but I see there’s a used 1HP DC on sale on the web for -$1500!

I purchased the 2HP Sherwood a few months ago, have used with my thicknesser, cabinet router table, cabinet jointer, and cabinet table saw and works fine, the Carabatec and Sherwood almost look like identical twins as does the Hafco so imagine would perform almost equally....probably comes down to price and availability, I picked the Sherwood as was available and could collect the next day from their Melbourne store which is semi handy to me as had an immediate project I was impatient to get started. Did some thicknessing previously without one and am still cleaning the dust out of my ears !.

    Cheers,

    Rudy

    The smaller FELDER units
    AF12 $???,
    AF14 $1216.68 exGST,
    AF16 $1639.92 exGST,
plus freight, from Sydney to your door, or wait for their monthly delivery from Sydney to their store in Melbourne and pick up or deliver from Melbourne.

If you want the canister filter that costs somewhere between $800-900 exGST, if you order the canister filter at the same time as the DC unit they will keep your bag filter for $180.
Replacement bag fillers cost $236 exGST.

From the FELDER sales rep - FELDER use a S1 rated motor and compared to other companies who us a S6 rated motor.

The Laguna C Flux Cyclone is available in Aus. They are quality, with integrated cyclone and canister, but they are 3HP and more expensive at a bit under $3k.

For most DIY situations an S6 motor used in repeated stops/starts should be OK. It's really only in industrial situations where DCs run all day that an S1 would be an advantage. That aside, an S1 motor should generally last a lot longer.

If a DC is placed in an enclosure and vented outside, careful location of the vent can be arranged so that all the air from the filters passes over/around the motor. This extra cooling usually enables even an S6 motor to run continuously without it overheating. I can see this on my setup as I have a digital thermometer on my DC motor.
