Carbatec 2hp remote switch
I have a 2hp Carbatec Dust extractor. I was wanting to configure it so I can use a remote to turn it on. has anyone done this?
Any help, greatly appreciated.

I've been using an Arlec Remote Control Power Outlet to control my generic 2 HP Dust Collector for a few years now. The switch has had no problems handling the current drawn by the 2 HP dusty. The remote control power outlet model I use has been superseded, but hopefully the current model Arlec unit is just as good.

CAUTION: I also have a 3 HP Dusty. As the Arlec Remote Control Power Outlet had worked so well on the 2 HP dusty, I decided to get a second one to use with the 3 HP dusty. Even though the 3 HP dusty's running current draw is within the Arlec Remote Control unit's specifications, the 3 HP dusty's start-up surge current draw was too high, and smoke leaked out of the remote control power outlet.
So - use the Arlec Remote Control Switch on your 2 HP dusty only, and you should have no problems.
Hope that info helps.

Yes, seconded, although I use an Aldi brand outlet. The remote itself takes four sockets and they can all be turned on or off with a master switch. This is useful on the router table where I have a DC, a VC and the router all on remote sockets. Switch everything on/off with one button.

The only problem is that my dusty has a momentary switch not a hard on/off so this type of remote will not work.

I set mine up so it can be switched on at a remote location, next to my lathe, is this what you're wanting to achieve??
If this is what you're after, I removed the switch assy, just uses push on spade fitting, inserted a couple of inline fuses (15 amp), and made a cover from plastic for the hole, just to keep fingers out. Scrounged a plug and lead of an old unloved machine, a plastic box from an electrical wholesaler, (mounted at the required location), another extension cord fitted with a base similar to what's used in the shed for hooking fluro lights to fitted spades to each end and ran the base to where I have the DC. Works excellently for me. When you get the leads, make sure they are of the heavier type not the light weight ones with 3 thin wires.
Can do pics tomorrow if required.
NOTE. If you're not comfortable playing with electrics, get someone who is or use an electrician.

Hi Roy. Just wondering how this are remote works when you still need to turn the dusty on and off at its switch. Doesn't the arlec thing just remotely operate the power at the wall? Thanks

I know this is an old thread but I have the same dust collector and wish to be able to turn it on either automatically or via a remote.

There's some discussion in this thread about options.
The Arlec remotes don't take kindly to the inductive load of a 2HP dust collector, so I have an Arlec remote triggering a contactor that switches the dust collector.
The NVR switch on the dust collector has been replaced with a, on/off switch that is left in the "on" state.

Have you got a link to the remote you're using & thanks for the other thread. I've since found this Youtube video from Carbatec, the same people who made my 2hp DC, they explain how to convert the NVR to a switch, they also sell the mounting plate for it.

I never scrolled down far enough to read the reviews on the Bunnings listing, but definitely worth a read - especially this one:

Based on that review, I would recommend getting the Jaycar remote, and not the Bunnings remote.
My Jaycar remotes have been working fine for a number of years.
