Are the filters a different size than the ones in the units sold by Hare and Forbes and Timbecon?
Amazon has ones that look the same as the Hare and Forbes units

Can you post the dimensions?
Cheers

Current state of play;
- I had a bit of a DC disaster. One disadvantage of a DC enclosure can be a lack of awareness of what’s actually happening inside. One of the 2 dust catching bags was blown off the filter ring and fletty continued blissfully unaware slowly filling the whole enclosure with fine red dust!
- the new level sensor which I was trialling, was happily waiting until the entire enclosure, rather than just the plastic bag, had filled to the pre-set level
- a couple of days of cleaning up fixed the immediate problem but a permanent solution was required
- i don’t think that there was enough exhaust capacity from the enclosure and so there was too much back pressure so I have installed a new xhaust which vents above the roof outside
- the circular pleated filters were probably sufficiently blocked creating enough back pressure to blow the bag off the filter ring (hence the request above!) so I removed the filters, took them outside and thoroughly beat them and used a powerful leaf blower to clear from outside to inside. It was very satisfying to see a LARGE pile of fine dust on the ground that had come from inside the filter.
- i have bought one of Carbatec’s new separate cyclones and installed it OUTSIDE of the enclosure to facilitate DAILY emptying
- I will report back soon with success or otherwise but, in the meantime, I will post one photo that best illustrates my frustration ...... and misery

By way of a reference I use a 500 x 250 mm DC enclosure exhaust port and that produces a pressure loss of ~0.06" of WC. Exhaust port cross sections and pressure losses are not proportional especially for smaller exhaust ports ie if the cross sectional area is halved the pressure loss is more than doubled.

The GREAT DC DISASTER has passed although I still can’t yet laugh about it?
The shed is largely cleaned up but I will do a more thorough job of it when the SURPRISE project is out of the shed.
I don’t want to restart the cyclone debate again but, IN MY CASE, the benefit of a cyclone is not only the traditional one of better average downstream filter performance but also not having to go into the very cramped DC closet to remove the bags and replace with new ones.
I bought one of Carbatec’s new cyclones ($529), installed it via some sub-optimal duct and flex routing .........

...... and decided to use it for a while before writing a review. I had also looked at raising it considerably to both improve the pipe routing but also to allow me to fit the councils green bin underneath rather than the supplied smaller mobile bin.
So far, I don’t have any measured performance changes but there is a bloody great pile of forest red gum shavings and dust in the cyclone’s bin.....

.....and NONE in the DC’s plastic bags? I am very happy with that!a rock is an obsolete tool ......... until you don’t have a hammer!

I see the linear actuator on the blast gate. If it isn't top secret can I ask what the stroke is, do they come with a stroke of a foot or two, how much and where can they be bought?

Do you think the cyclone would be good enough, on its own, to not use the pleated filter and bag?

Just having dinner, and will respond properly soon, but I found an excellent supplier of filters here in Oz, plus a US supplier who will deliver high-MERV filters super cheaply.
There is a thread of mine somewhere here with it.....
