cartridge filter
Hi
I have a modified 2hp (as per BobL) dust extractor that is giving approx 490 cubic feet/min via 6 inch ducting at my table saw. The dusty is in an enclosed "room" that is vented to
outside so fine dust from the filter bag is not an issue. A cartridge filter will potentially collect more fine dust but will it give me any increased flow?
Cheers Mike

A filter cartridge/s with similar external dimensions to a/the bags will have more surface area, so will give you more air flow volume. The more expensive cartridge filters will capture finer dust from the get-go, but both types of filters will clog in time and restrict air flow.
If you have the room/space, you can get the same benefit by increasing your bag surface area by adding more bags and potentially at less cost.
As you are already venting outside the next step up from there to increase your air flow would be to add a cyclone, ramp up your impeller/motor capacity and eliminate the filters altogether. This assumes that noise won't be an issue with your neighbours.
Filter cartridges are less prone to leaking dust than bags where they attach to the housing, but as you are venting outside that is less of an issue for you.
You will already know if you are venting outside that will draw whatever the outside air temp is into your workshop. A point that is worth mentioning for anyone else going down that pathway for the first time.Stay sharp and stay safe!

On a 2HP DC, a clean (not pristine or new, just well rattled down) pleated filter (PF) will give about 10-12% more flow and maintain flow for longer than a well shaken down/out needle felt filter (NFF). If the PF is repeatedly cleaned the increased airflow will help collect more dust back in the shed than a NFF.
Once DCs have been running for a while and the PFs are not rattled, or the NFFs not shaken, the efficiency of the filtration depends on what it has collected. ie if the sawdust is mostly shavings, some flow will be maintained but more fines will escape the filters. If the sawdust is mainly from sanding this self blocks the filters and improves efficiency but at the expense of loss of flow.

Rather than buying pleated filters from overseas you have home grown companies that supply them to industry. You will get a better product and the costs will be equal or lower. If getting some made tell them you will be flowing the air inside to outside so they can revers the media. Industry usually flow outside inwards.

People have started attaching inexpensive concrete vibrators to filters to shake out the dust when needed or with timers. The bottom one is what I was referring to but couldn't find it on your Amazon. The top one looks like it would do the trick.

Interesting to see this about the amazon vibrator.
Working Environment】: The motor is not waterproof, and the motor is not dustproof (not suitable for use in dusty environments, it is recommended to apply sealant).

Clear Vue is offering a shaker setup for the filters and the vibrator they use was what I was looking for to post. I didn't read the description and oops it wouldn't be the one to get. Thanks for pointing out my error. Amazon here has the one like Clear Vue use and they range anywhere from 30 Watts to over 100 Watts starting at about $60Cad. They didn't show up when I looked through your Amazon site but perhaps the eBay ones you mentioned are the same.
