Clearvue owner in SE QLD willing to let me see their setup?
Hi guys,
Firstly, a big thanks to those who provide and contribute to this forum - it's quite a resource!
I'm very close to ordering a Clearvue 1800 but I really would like to see or rather hear someone else's install if possible. I'm in the middle of the suburbs and really don't want to annoy the neighbours with the noise! Unfortunately the most suitable position is probably 5m from the neighbours' house so I would really like to get the noise mitigation right from day 1 if at all possible!
This might be a stretch, but is anyone with a Clearvue system in SE QLD willing to let me see it operating? I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks very much
Pat

If for some reason David's offer does not work out let me know and I will organise something for you. The noise can be dealt with but it is not a five minute job. Search the DE forum for my post on how I did mine.

Hi PFH
I have a Clearview 1800 running at 60 hz on a VFD. Running it at 60hz does increase the airflow but at the expense of a considerable increase in noise.
If I had my time over I would have purchased a CV1800 but with a CV MAX impellor and housing. This would allow running at 50 hz hence reduced noise but better air flow.

I run my 1800 at 70hz and the noise of the air going through the machines is quite loud but the machines are louder. I only notice it when I am using a few machines and the CV is left running but then I have have ear protection on anyway. The Max with a 16" impeller was made to perform the same as a 15'' impeller at 50hz.

Hi Pat,
when I replied I meant to offer that you could inspect mine if you wish.
While I live in Brisbane southside we are on Macleay Is. It requires a ferry trip from Redland Bay (walk on pssenger ferry) and we can provide transport on the Is. If interested PM me
Cheers

Thanks Chris!
I thought that would be the case - similar pressure drop, just larger flow rate, right?
Thanks Ron, that's very kind - however I just went and saw David's machine on the weekend. It was very helpful to see one in operation. Wasn't nearly as loud as I was expecting so I'm confident I can deal with the noise well enough and optimise it over time if needed.

The thinking at the time was that to reach the minumum ideal air flow it needed a bigger (16") impeller for 50hz markets to match the flow achieved by a 15" impeller in 60hz markets. Thinking about that either someone has invented the story or someone ignored a basic design fact. If the 16" flows the same as a 15" as proposed then why does the Max need a bigger inlet for the same flow. I think what happened was they saw they could sell the Max in the US (60hz) so it needed a bigger inlet for that market. It is generally reckoned that a 15" CV1800 should have a 7" duct for maximum performance but that is mission impossible in Oz unless you roll your own. All the R&D into the above was pre VFD days as well so our perception now is coloured by that. In those days if a CV was sold in a 50hz market then that is what it ran at unlike today. It was only when we thought up the idea of using a VFD and I have no recollection as to how that came about was selling CV's in a 50hz market possible.
I am not sure of the gain of a 16" impeller running at 60hz against a 15" running at 70hz and very few people would be in the position to compare them side by side. The increase in air flow between 60 & 70 on mine is very very evident by the lift in air flow noise. There is the possibility the motor might have a shorter life but the average hobbyist most probably does not put enough operational hours onto the motor to have an effect but that is only a presumption on my part. We did try running a Max at 70 over a longer period and had to dial it back to 65 because it overheated but that was running for extended periods of time in a commercial situation. A Max could be run at 70 but only for short periods of time such as a hobbyist would do but it probably isn't necessary and if I owned a Max I would run it at 65 and call it done. I would like to see some real air flow figures for a 16" impeller in a CV 1800 because I don't think the 150mm duct is anywhere near big enough but that is only a gut feeling on my part.CHRIS

Thanks Chris!
Sounds like I'm best to stick with the 1800 with DN150 pipe for my situation. I will only need short runs of piping anyway so hopefully I can keep friction losses to a minimum.
