I picked up the unit today. Smaller thicknesser than I’ve had before but my present situation doesn’t allow for any other unit at the moment. So I’ll take the help where I can get it. Apprentices will start work tomorrow and can sort out a 2hp unit next week

The new unit arrived, fully assembled now beyond what this photo shows and seems to extract the larger chips just fine.
I can see it leaking out around the bag at the moment but as it’s used in a well ventilated area the noise levels more of a concern than the smaller dust particles at the moment
I think I may still need a smaller vac for the joinery work I’ll be doing as well so I’ll still keep an eye out for festool vac for the domino and tracks saw instead of using this unit with adapters, it’s really loud
One day I’ll place a cyclone unit in a sound insulated housing outside my shed. For now this will do
Cheers
Nathan

Just get a 2 hp collector with a bag and a bit of 100 mm hose, I’ve worked in plenty of places and that’s all they had and it worked. Noisy, yes, but not for very long.

DC Noise can be abated by using an enclosure but that's not going to be possible for your thicknesser.
What's behind you in this picture?
Ie is it open or is there a wall?

The only wall is the one to the left of the photo. behind me is open also as its a drive through car port. pretty free flowing air all around im grateful for the weather up here and everything with exception to the shelving and workbench on casters
Ill re-fit the bag again a little tighter, i can see the dust coming out of the seal as youve mentioned earlier bobl at where the bag connects.
edit: Ive also found a handle was missing on the housing of the dusty that i didnt install initially which was leaking lots of fine dust. installing this and refitting the bag has significantly reduced the amount of visible dust coming from the bag. pressure has increased also.
We live and we learn
Cheers,
Nathan
