Default How to connect 125mm ducting

    Hi there,
I have just purchased a 2hp dust extractor. The fan has a 125mm intake port with a Y fitting with 2 x 100mm dust ports on it.

I'm wanting to duct this throughout my garage and in order to maximise the air flow I was looking at removing the Y fitting and attaching 125mm ducting hose directly to it.

The problem is that I can easily find 125mm blast gates etc but I want to make some custom hoods etc and can't seem to find any connectors that will allow me to connect 125mm ducting hose to the side of my hoods.

The closest thing I can find are Universal Dust Hoods which I could screw to the side of my hoods but they all seem to only have 100mm ports on them and I'm wanting to connect 125mm hose.

How does everyone else do this?

Carbatec and others have 5 to 4" reducers but you would be significantly better off to cut off the 4" ports and turn them into 5" ports otherwise it will be largely pointless to run 5" hose to the port.

While 5" hose is cheaper than 6", 6" PVC sewage fittings are readily available an you might be better off in the long run to use a 6" ducting even though you only have a 5" port at the DC.

If you use the 125mm ducting hose you will loose a lot of the suction because of the turbulence from the spiral inside the hose. I would recommend using 150mm PVC pipe and fittings as a main line to overcome the loss.
Use droppers in the 100mm PVC size with the 100mm blastgates and ducting hose keeping the ducting hose as short as possible. To bring the 100mm to the size of the blast gates I made a reducing jig from a block of wood turned to shrink the PVC down from 110mm OD-100mm OD using a heat gun.
The other thing that I would fit in line is a cyclone as that will save emptying the bag very often. It doesn't take long to fill a bag with a thicknesser. I used a 60litre bin with a couple of fittings as a cyclone.
