    Default cyclone bigger than CVMax?

    Hi all

I would like to upgrade my dust collection system in the near future, but I would like to future proof myself as I may add a wide belt sander to my workshop later next year.

the wide belt sander I am interested in requires 3500m3/hr, its bigger variants requires 4200m3/hr

I am quite convinced of the ClearVue but it can only move up to 1935 CFM, which is about 3290m3/hr.

Is there any other dust collection system that I can install in my garage apart from the Felder RL200/RL250/RL300 series?

    Thanks for your time.

What size and how many ducts does the belt sander have on it?

The reason I ask this is that manufacturers are notorious for putting small ducting ports on machines that are simply not capable of carrying the amount of air they specify to control the dust from a machine. To get around this they task the owner to attach a ridiculously large DC to increase the pressure so that more air flows.

For example if the machine has 4" ports it would need to have 6 of them to carry 3500 CMH, 3 x 5" ducting, 2 x 6" or 1 x 8"
This of course is at average DC pressures. If the pressures can be increased as Chris Parks says the Clearvue can, fewer ducts may be required.

On something like a sander the air outlets are ofter poorly located and a lot of dust escapes from these machines so placing a hood above such a machine may be worthwhile

Thanks Bob, I think the WBS does not have 6 x 4" ports, from the photo it looks like 1 x 150mm and 2 x 100mm, its not clear on their brochure and this info is not specified. I need to find out from them.

yeah I thought about if I can create enough pressure at the DC end then I should be able to suck more air/less ports requried.

I even thought about if I really needed it, I could have 2xCVMax working in parallel, the Felder machine is so expensive that I can get 2x CV Max installed + proper ducting designed and installed with spare change

    1 x 6" and 2 x 100 will be 2000 cfm or 3400 CMH which is where there 3500 CMH comes from.

HOWEVER, this assumes the machine ports are truly free flowing which they will not be, so the real flow will be less that this. How much is difficult to say but it seems to me that one Clearvue will easily manage this provided the 6" and 4" feed into an 8" duct.

In practice 4" ports on real machines like sanders only draw about 300 cfm and the 6" might draw 900 to 1000 cfm which the CV Max will easily

Apart from power considerations 2 x CV Max makes sense because when you just need basic DC you can just use one of them. If you install one huge DC, unless you install a VSD you need to run that big DC every time. Also you can install one CV Max and see how it goes and if necessary install the second one.

the 3500 and the 4200 CMH is from their catalogue, but the catalogue did not specify how many ports each sander had, I had to guesstimate by looking at the pics, and they look like 1x 150mm and 2 x 100mm.

Yes you are correct about the benefit of a dual system, I am going to have one CVMax installed first.

Thank you BobL you have answered the question that I was researching for Albert. I really do not think that he would have much problem with one CVMax but I would be very happy to sell him 2.
