    When I did some very early tests on the whole dust collection thing I set up a much smaller collection box and the dust movement in the box was a lot more violent, that was a very simple setup and not the best comparison with a full on cyclone but it did indicate the motion and direction of the air.
    My collection box is fairly large, ~1100x1100x870 a tad over 1m3 so that might have a calming effect, also I built mine with the 3D length cone, ~1200 long, that also might have a calming effect.

    Here's a pic looking up into the cone, when I took this pic it hadn't been in operation for long but it is possible to see the paths of dust against the inside of the top of the cone and then diminishing off to nothing, this suggests (to me at least) a longer cone does have some calming effect.

    You must have a very high ceiling

    Im sure the longer cone would reduce angular velocity.
