I bought an identical one from Aliexpress for near as dammit the same amount; haven't got it set it up yet. This is definitely a single machine only cyclone; it is less than 1' tall! I intend to use it as a replacement for my Triton dust bucket with an Aldi workshop vac.

That is quite an old design, although it's better than some of the ones on offer out there. It works quite well and is a hell of a lot better than a dust bucket or nothing. The manufacturer hasn't made these for quite some time so they're probably clearing old stock. Cracker of a price! Deals like this is one of the reasons why I don't sell small cyclones anymore.

David, what was the mini cyclone design you sold?
From just a glance this one doesn't look that different to the dust deputy. Neither seem to have an angled intake or internal ramp so I've always been suss about how effective this would be.

This is the one I used to sell John - Turbo Charging Cyclone Dust Separator Collector Version Vacuums Cleaners Filter | eBay
There is also an earlier version available on eBay that looks very similar the main differences being that the inlet on this later version has a much steeper spiral leading to a greatly reduced area of turbulence at the inlet, and a modified waste bin outlet. About the only thing that reduces the separation efficiency of this model is hand plane shavings. Because the body of the cyclone is relatively small some curly bits like plane shavings get caught in the outward airflow and take a bit of other material with them. I haven't found it to be a serious inconvenience.
I have my cyclone mounted on a 30 litre ring lock drum and tend to empty it when it contains about 20 litres of material. I also clean the first two filters in my vac at that time. The vac suction is more than acceptably strong even when the collection bin has 20 litres of material in it. I never cease to be amazed how well the cyclone works.
Cheers,
David

I am looking to buy this. Is the one with the rounded top superior to the one with the flat top?

.
Yes! But make sure you get the one with the full intake port width spiral, this one - Turbo-Charging Cyclone Dust Separator Collector Version Vacuums Cleaners Filter | eBay
There is another one that looks very similar from the same manufacturer, if you look closely the spiral comes only halfway up the inlet port.

I have an old unit with a straight intake, and a newer model with intake ramp. I grabbed the new model some time back for a second vacuum clearer that I use for cleaning outside the workshop after hand sawing or cutting timber out there.
I grabbed another (newer version) after been blown away with how well the old design actually worked in the workshop vac, I haven't cleaned the filter or bin in the "outside wall mounted" workshop vac since installing this little Cyclone, normally I have to clean it every few days, the bin on the vac itself is still spotless, the "big" bin on the mini cyclone is once again 1/2 full, Invisibles are vented outside and I always have full suction and no messy filter to clean - for $25 - priceless.

I can't see the difference that aldav is warning me about. Is this one with a 3m hose a good one or an old one?

Sorry DaveVman I can't tell from his listing whether he is selling the old or the new one, he has both pictured! I suspect it is the new one and he is just using an old photo as his main picture. The attached pictures show the differences. Basically the new one has a steeper spiral so you get much less turbulence at the inlet, this reduces the tendency for lighter particles to stall in the upper body of the cyclone and creates a much more positive downward airstream spiral. The waste outlet on the old model is square to the body where the new one is angled, it won't stand erect on its base like the old one will. Hope this helps.

I bought the Banggood one to replace a home-made cyclone which had a few design flaws. The flat design of the Banggood cyclone means larger items rattle around the top until you turn the vacuum off. (I was told by one of the staff at Carbatec that the Dust Deputy does that.) My homemade version was a little larger and didn't do that - so I might buy that new design or go back to my old version.
I based mine on a Bill Prenz design although his designs are for 100mm pipes and a big dust collector.Steve

So I bought one of these from Ebay. It arrived a week earlier than expected. It's smaller than I imagined but it is the new style.
Now I am trying to figure out how to connect it to the vacuum and tools. It's imperial so that's not simple.

I had to trawl through the plumbing section at Bunnings to find make-shift adapters - and the Banggood version has different sized inlet and outlets ( a couple of millimetres) to add to the complication.
