Question see them in the flesh

    they are the following two

MWE-DU02 from Major Woodworking Equipment for $495

    FM300 from Carbatec for $319

Looks like I will be buying my saw from Major Woodworking so the freight is not an issue, but I am sure I could get the Carbatec one plus freight for cheaper than the MWE one by its self.

Are they the same or am I comparing GMC to Makita?

    Thanks

Hi Grant, aside from the inherent issues of 2HP collectors debated above, I think the MWE unit is quite a bit better constructed than the carbatec one if I remember correctly, I would advise trying to see I of each in the flesh if possible before you lay out your cash.

There are two common versions of the 2HP single bag unit.
One has the round impeller outlet (model A) and one has the rectangular outlet (model B).
Model A does seem to be slightly better made (many are made in Taiwan) and also usually have a 6" intake already built into the impeller housing compared to the 4.5" intake on Model B.
I'm uncertain what the size of the impeller outlet and flexy is used on model A. If it is 6" and uses a 6" flex then modification to full 6" flow of Model A will be dead easy.
If Model A uses 5" flexy then it will be a right PITA because enlarging the impeller outlet and bag housing from 5 to 6" will be tough.
