Perhaps my vacuum cleaner was not powerful enough (Festool CT26e).
Your CT26 is plenty strong enough Derek, it's the design of the "dust collection" in that fence – it's taking a knife to a gunfight! Apart from the point of suction being way too far away, there is a terrible (sharp edged) choke point where the black tube reduces to ~½ the diameter, which reduces suction by 4x. I use a CT26 M which is ducted, so by the time it's at the DP there's around 5m of 70mm pipe and 50mm hose – no problem.

What I find aggravating is getting registration when drilling a series of holes – chips get in the way and one has to fool around.

You can actually buy something similar from Total Tools and other tool stores: MILWAUKEE SDS Max Dust Extraction Drilling Attachment 5317DE | Total Tools

I bought a generic brand similar item from Bunnings but they no longer seem to have it on their website. They have a couple of Bosch items that are similar but are twice the Milwaukee price I linked to at Total Tools.

I have used it on the drill press it works well enough.

Here is a different option which, I think, is the best I've seen. In concept anyway. I just haven't gotten around to making one for myself: Drill Press Dust Collection - YouTube

    MH,
I think the concept is a little better, but I couldn’t understand why is port was not at the level of the drill press table,
It seems to mind that it would seem sensible to catch the chips and dust as much as possible right at the source??.

    Cheers Matt.

That is PERZACKLY why I use a hand-held hose with a large crevice tool (not a miserable little thing – the opening is ~50x20mm). I can move it exactly where it needs to be, and hold it as close to the bit as is safe (so maybe 20mm away). It's only with very large forstners that there are escapees...

I don't think it really matters if there is enough air flow. It seems to work quite well in the completed item as demonstrated.

    Which reminds me.

There is an old joke in the computer industry (bear in mind I've been a software engineer for nearly 40 years) about demonstrations...

A computer software salesman was out on the golf course with some clients when he suddenly has a heart attack and dies.

He is met by St Peter at the pearly gates...

"Well, this is interesting.", says St Peter, "We've never had a computer software salesman or woman eligible to enter heaven before. They're all in the other place.", he says pointing downwards.

"I tell you what", says St Peter, "Have a week in heaven and hell. No obligation, and you can make up your own mind".

Our salesman says, "Well, that seems fair" and heads off for the week in heaven.

And heaven is pretty much the whole stereotype, fluffy clouds, harps etc.

Then he takes his week in hell.

The party is happening! The Rolling Stones are playing (though with a stand in for Keith Richards. He's immortal.). The Jack is flowing and the party just goes on for the whole week.

So our intrepid computer salesman ventures back to the pearly gates and has a chat with St Peter.

"Well, heaven is great. Don't get me wrong. But damn! The party is just going to go on forever in hell. So I'm gonna head on back to my buds in hell".

St Peter says; "Well, I'm happy I gave you the opportunity to choose. Have an awesome ever-after". Waves our salesman off with the devil hand 🤘and says, "Rock on!".

Our salesman gets back to hell and now it's the stereotype of hell. Flames, pitchforks, demons, and brimstone.

Completely thrown off, our salesman walks over to Beelzebub and says, "What happened? Where's the party gone?".

Beelzebub laughs (demonically...) and says, "Oh. That was just the demo".

Hope you all have a great new year!

    Now ain't that the truth!

I am getting increasingly annoyed with people who do not know the basics, making a misleading video that presents themselves as experts. I used to just mutter "F-wit" and move on, until I realised that the viewer needs enough knowledge and experience to realise that the presenter has neither. It is potentially dangerous.

How long before an ambulance chasing lawyer sues a video presenter and host - "My client precisely followed your video on the ultra safe method of putting a V8 motor in his chain saw, and he cut his foot off and now wants $100 million ...... plus my paltry fees"
