Ducting upgrade

G'day all,

I need to upgrade my ducting for my hare and forbes DC-7 3HP dusty. I'm running 4'" flex hose to each machine and there's lots of bends, air leaks etc. I'll do the standard 6" ducting with junctions to each machine. I'll update the thread with photos of my current setup and what I am planning on doing. It'll be a basic setup as most of my machines are close to each other. Standby for photos soon to make it clearer as no doubt i'll have more questions.

First things first, - where do you get your ducting from in Sydney?I looked at Bunnings for 150mm junction. They're asking $48, compared to this mob at $15.30 - 150mm x 45 Degree Stormwater Junction F&F I have done some reading through the various DE threads, and I don't recall the junctions costing this much? they look like the same thing?

- I measured the opening of the DC7 port (I removed the 3 x 100mm attachment) and it measures just under 150mm. I recall other owners having trouble fitting 150mm pvc over this fitting, but going by measurement it looks as if it'll slide right over?

What do you mean by just under 150 mm?

150 mm pipe is 154mm ID and that extra 4mm is really worth having in that part of the ducting.

Take a look at the "Generic 2HP modification" sticky to see how to do this. It basically involves replacing or modifying the port plate of the DC so that a female duct junction can be used so the pipe slide inside the suction rather that the pipe sliding over something.

Ideally the opening should be made wide enough to used a Bell Mouth Hood but the sticky shows how to utilize MDF and a roundover bit to get close to the same effect.

Thanks Bob, what I meant to say is 150mm hose. The opening is 145mm from memory. I remember reading someone couldn’t fit 150mm hose over their DC7.

If I do decide to remove the plate and replace it with a MDF/150 BM it really doesn’t matter I suppose.

I’ll post some photos in next day or two to illustrate what I intend to do.

I have most of my fittings from a local supplier - Gainsforts Plumbing. Their website’s not really a website but their prices were only slightly dearer than pipesonline. I haven’t bought from them in the last 12 months so things may have changed.
I did buy some fittings from pipesonline (before I found Gainforts) and even with freight they were cheaper than Tradelink or Reece.

Tradelink was not bad sometime ago but their prices now are not much different to Reece.

I modified the front of my DE with a multi tier ply front and 150mm pipe, about 1 metre long, then a very short piece of 160mm Flexi to link to the main 150mm trunk line to isolate the system from any vibration. The pipe line actually goes through two shed walls and the Flexi also helped in this area.

I’d be ringing around to find local plumbing suppliers and checking their prices
