    Default dust collector surface coating

I've just made a dust catcher for my compound mitre saw (works gooderer too, should be more better when I get the DC7 hooked up to her). The dust seems to catch on the surface of the ply though.

Any suggestions of what to apply to the surfaces where the dust can catch to make the dust less likely to sit and more likely to make it's way to the exit hole.

    cheers

You can't expect dust not to settle on it if their is no forced extraction. However, I would have thought sanding the surface and painting it would certainly help let more slip by. Your contraption sounds interesting, can you post any pics?

    TP1

I have my Makita vac hooked up to it at the moment through a Triton dust bucket with no filter and a Thien baffle, and that stops about 99% of the dust etc. from getting out of the chamber into the atmosphere but a lot of it settles inside the chamber, hopefully the DC7 will stop more of it from settling.

. I will post some pics this afternoon.

I thought of just painting it with whatever gloss paint I have on hand, but thought there might be a better option out there.

    cheers

Here are some pics. Picture 1 shows the wings on the front closed. I can make cuts with the saw rotated for left or right 45 mitres. Picture 2 shows the wings open for access to the chamber and to allow compound cuts. Picture three is inside the chamber. Picture 4 is a side on view with the dust exit on the bottom, soon to be 100mm into a DC7.

Eventually the whole show will be mounted into a bench in my new shed, but thats a while down the track.

    Cheers

sliding doors is a great idea!

That hole in the bottom looks small.

The dust also settles in mine, but I figure that at least it is not in the air.

    blackhole

The hole is Triton dust pipe size. As I said, it will have a 100mm one in it later this week. I agree totally about the dust settling inside the chamber is better than settling inside me, but a bit more being removed by the dusty would be good. I'm going to go the paint shop and talk to someone that knows paint to try and find a slick one. I'm guessing some sort of paint that is supposed to be easy to remove kidling mess and such would do the trick.

BTW the Thien baffle inside the triton bucket works real well.

I put a piece of pipe out the back of my saw to, it is attached loosley to saw arm with cable ties to keep it pointing down.
