Default Dust Extraction to atmosphere (outside)

    Hi All,

I am thinking of setting up a Dust Extraction system that basically just vents to outside my workshop, maybe even placing the motor outside so its not as noisy.

I was thinking of using a Sherwood 2HP Dust Extractor for this purpose, as its only for hobby use of a CNC, table saw etc.

Although don't really need the filters and bag, so can you just buy these types of motors without the bags etc? if so where do you get them.
    Thanks in advance.

Unless you live in the country and your shed is many meters from your house you will still need som basic filtering or you will cover everything within many meters of teh DC with dust.

You could get away with a decent cyclone without filters but you'd need to drive it with more than a 2HP 2DC.

I'm in the process of installing a 5" Oneida cyclone on a 44 gallon drum with a 2hp motor & blower from a Carbatec dust extractor powering it in my shed in Kalgoorlie. The blower will vent directly outside via a length of PVC pipe with no bags / filters etc. So far, I have it running and have tried it without the external vent pipe - it runs well and the 2hp motor and blower now works much better (with less restrictions to airflow) than it ever did in the Carbatec configuration with plastic dust collection bag and material "filter" bag above it.

I live on a farm, the shed is 200m from my house and I don't care about the health of the cows in adjoining paddock they have acres to get away from it if need be.

I was thinking of just venting to a open pile, and using the front end loader to move it when it got too big.

Do you think 2hp is enough to vent 2 machines (not used at the same time) to a pile outside? I don't know if it makes a difference the shed is 20m x 25m x 6m (high) with 2/3rds sliding doors on one side.

Thanks for that, its helpful on blower size. I am not thinking of a cyclone as I don't see the point for my circumstances.

Just buy a used one, They don't deteriorate with age.

Big doors and Farm is great provided your not working on really still days otherwise the fine dust will just go back inside the shed to where you are

Finally have it all set up and working. Has a floor port that I can sweep dust into, and a separate hose outlet that I can connect directly to machinery as I am using it. All of my larger dust generating machines are on wheels (except for the lathe) so I have not bothered plumbing to different locations in the shed. Carbatec 2hp motor and blower mounted high up - stop/start switch removed and mounted in a plastic electric box on the side of the white shelving unit below the blower. The 44 gallon drum is on wheels (the original base of the Carbatec dust extractor unit) and I have two drums which I can change out easily.

Works well - much better than either my small Sherwood or the original configuration of the Carbatec with plastic collection bag and the big white filter bag above it. This vents directly outside the shed - and nothing at all comes out the end of the pipe other than air. The Oneida cyclone does the job very well.
