You're telling me, When I first built my cyclone a few years ago, I was contemplating the 1hp under bench style. They cost $399 at the time. The 2HP jobs were obviously well out of reach.
I actually had a chance to try one of those 1hp units a while ago and I'm afraid my homebuilt blower outperformed it, and I only used a 3/4 hp motor!!! Actually the 1hp was quieter but that was about it.
Given the suck factor of this 2hp job though I can now safely relegate to old homemade blower to the "used but good department" and hopefully be quieter in the process.
One thing I have learnt though is straight vanes on the impeller make a hell of a exhaust racket. I rebuilt the impeller once and angled the blades away a bit but it was still quite noisy. The curved blades in the commercial units help a lot to reduce the chop chop effect as each blade passes the exhaust opening.Ray
