Thank you all so much for your input, it is really appreciated. I showed my wife your ideas and she was amazed that so many "strangers" were will in to help, but that is what this forum has always been about. She has put her pastels away for the time being and is continuing with water colours, no issues with dust there. I will have a tinker in the garage using some of the ideas from hare and will post if I come up with a viable extractor.

I have one in the shed collecting dust, you’d just need a bell mouth hood or similar and a bit of hose for it. PM me and I’ll send you photos and specifications.
