    Default Dust Extractor

Most of my woodworking to date has been done using hand tools and I use a Festool C22E Dust extractor which is an excellent unit.

I am about to buy a Planer - probably JET 8" unit which has a 4 inch outlet and I suspect the Festool unit may not be adequate for larger machines due to limited air volumes also the size of the hose is quite small at about 30mm. The bag holds 22litres and at 16 bucks a pop not cheap to run!

My starting point is I may need to buy a more serionable entry level units with the necessary 4 inch port.

Would a larger but not significantly more expensive JET 1200 Cubic metere/min be a better proposition?

Also happy to be convinced that I CAN get away with the Festool Dust Extractor and a bigger diameter hose

    Warmtone,

The Festool will be useless for a planer! No-one here will try and convince you. (At least no-one in their right mind!)

The Jet will be a great start!!
Have a nice day - Cheers

Yep the JET sucks! If you intend to buy more machines later get the biggest unit you can afford(they cant be to big).
Go the extra expense and get a pleated filter cartridge(s), then make a pre-filter/separator drum to go inline before the dusty.
Do a search here you'll find heaps of these drums set up...

I agree, the Festool CT22 being as good as it is, is not designed for that sort of extraction. You need large volume low pressure dust extraction like the 100mm machines. Get plenty of 'power' (cmm/cfm) and the better filter bags, else you are defeating the purpose through lack of chip pick-up and lack of fine dust control.<O</O
