I was just about to buy a second CV1800. The website is still active?

I have the tech to make them out of sheetmetal. Not that I have any spare time, but maybe I should start doing that?

If you want one it is either import it (transport costs prohibitive) or build it here. The impeller is the biggest hurdle and always has been though I did have one made locally a few months ago and then we had to make the taper lock as that was unobtanium in Oz at the time. I find it interesting that the Taiwanese sources are also drying up also for similar reasons, supplier costs and transport have risen hugely to the point it is now viable to make cyclones here.

So I should start tooling up to make them? IF there is enough demand, I will look into the cost of it.

I have the technology to make the impellor, just don't have any way of balancing it. I'll have to take a look into it. I also have mate who runs a lot of CNC mills and lathes, so turning out taper locks would not be a problem.

If you see enough volume in sales why not. The balance would only have to be static as it is a fairly low speed device when it is all said and done. In the ten years of sales there have been perhaps a thousand units sold and about 20 of those were to one company. I sent 4 to Mongolia drop shipped out of the US for coal dust sampling for that same company.

balancing is relatively easy,you just need to make up a dummy shaft

I bought a weldable hub from a local supplier, with a matching taperlock, for about $35.

I have not actually fabricated the impeller yet, I have just completed the plasma cutting table and bought the steel, but things keep on coming up to rob me of time... (like this London Plane which I now have to get across town & mill this week)

Eventually I'll get around to bending the fins & welding them to the back plate

Whatever you do when making the impeller don't undersize the steel thickness.

What folks don't realize is that even at 2850rpm DC impellers "flare" they flex at the hub which limits the clearance possible between the impeller's OD and the internal impeller housing wall.

The flexing is possibly why some impellers still use rivets instead of welding. Any welding on these should be stress relieved but I'm pretty certain you would already know that.

Static balancing is simple enough... but can be very time consuming.

That is one process that I would outsource to an outfit that doesn't put a high value on their time... Men's Sheds comes to mind. Maybe doing a batch of balancing in return for an impeller.

Sounds like there is definitely an opportunity for an Aussie outfit if they could produce units that function well and end up priced some where between the Laguna units and the Felder RL/Alko machines.

Didn't someone post that Laguna were no longer sold here as well?

Has there been any further attempts at making the impellers locally?

If the impeller is the main stumbling block at making a BP cyclone, what would it roughly cost to have one manufactured here in Oz by a machine shop?

Desperately seeking a better dust extraction option than my 1HP, and my workshop was built/designed in such a way to house a BP cyclone, this was before the local mob closed down.
