dust extractors
I am trying to decide what dust extractor to purchase from the Carba-Tec catalogue. Has anyone experience with the 2 hp CT2042. This unit also has a needle felt filter bag rated at 5 microns as an option. Would this be desireable?
The Delta series of extractors have "sealed bearings for quiet long life" . In practise does anyone know if they are quiter than the Carba-Tec brand?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Trout,
My D/C is the 2hp economy version - FM 300. The noise level is not a problem, and it efficiently deals with dust collection from a table saw, 4 metres away

Ok BUT
I have heard the Delta one running and don't believe there is any noticable difference in noise level. The economy ones are fine HOWEVER forget the micron rating on the standard bags and also the fine filter bags. They don't filter to 5 micron until they are so clogged with fine dust that the suction is non existent.

I started out with a 1hp Delta. A fine machine but prone to blocking until I removed the grate at the plenum chamber. I found 1hp inadequate for a table saw and a jointer. I subsequently bought the CT-2042. The increase in hp gave an immediate improvement. The motor of the 2hp Carba-tec machine is almost as quiet as the 1 hp Delta. Noise levels of the Carba-tec are slightly higher due to the increased airflow through ducting and bags.
I kept the 1hp Delta for use around the lathe, bandsaw and drop saw. It handles these tasks well.
Both machines are well constructed and reliable. The Delta comes with an extended warranty but for hobby use I think the Carba-tec will outlast me anyway!
