    Default Dust filtration levels

I am looking at purchasing another vacuum and struggling with the filtration levels.
What is the difference between a L class with Hepa to an M class? The filtration levels appear to be basically the same. From what I have read the Festool L and M use the same filter and both have Hepa filters so unofficially you are getting identical filtration but one doesn’t carry official M category certification
Also I have read you cannot use a Hepa filter with the auto clean function as it damages the filter so not sure if I should look for the auto clean function or have Hepa
I am told the most popular Festool vac sold by far is the 26 litre in the L category.

Many of the M category vacs from various brands do not have Hepa filters

It’s main use will be with a tracksaw and Rotex sander etc and other mobile tools

Appreciate some feedback, the retailers don’t seem to be able to clarify the differences

A karcher rep explained the difference to me, as below. Probably technically not super accurate but for what us woodies do its good enough for me.

L and M class extractors use exactly the same filter, the biggest difference is M class extractors will beep when extraction drops below a certain point. M class is more for those that work with concrete, for wood L class extractors are more than capable and no real benefit is gained from an M class extractor.

I think more important will be getting an extractor capable of having a HEPA filter, better still moving extractor outside.

Thanks for the replies, Tonzeyd via Midnight mans link I managed to find the explanation and you are right.

Here is Festool’s info on it Festool - Explained: M Class Dust

I am a bit surprised that no one could easily explain the differences when I was looking to buy a new vac.

Thanks fir the link Midnight man.
