Default Dust to kill your neighbours?

Hi all, I was going to do a diy cyclone ala Bill Pentz.

That was a while ago and I haven't really had the time Now I want to use some of my tools more often but the dust thing just gets to me.. I need to sort it out.

I was back to thinking about putting a standard collector outside. My searching of this idea shows that some do while others say (with jest?) that you are killing your neighbours or yourself anyway..

From memory Bill P's site says that if you blow it outside it will dissipate in to the atmosphere very quickly going down to levels that are consitent with what the air is normally.

Why do some say differen't? At this point I am looking for an easy way out and this seems like it. Is there really an argument against it?

    Sorry for another dust post

    Thanks,
    Jason

My dusty is in a lean to shed on the side of my shed,
I have a tarp hanging down over the front.
Most dust is caught by my bins and a little in the bag on the pump unit.
I never see dust clouds or even dust on the footpath alongside the dusty shed. I couldn't foresee any possible dust problems with neighbors with my setup

I think its better to have the dusty outside in the open rather than inside in a confined space like a workshop.

The only thing I would be concerned about is upsetting the neigbours from the noise rather than the dust.

If you could afford a pleated filter you would not have a problem anywhere you put it, nothing escapes it.

Has anyone tried to hook up two dust extractors to a DIY cyclone, thought of trying it in the workshop. Interested to hear of any pro's or con's on this.

Jason, your concern does you credit.

No, you don't want to protect your own health at the expense of your neighbours'.

Mostly for airborne particles, safety ratings specify a safe maximum. While the debate continues, I think it fair and safe to assume that there is no safe max with wood dust.

So as David rightly points out, a pleated paper cartridge is at the moment the best way to go.

Thanks guys, I am quite happy to get a pleated filter. With all the talk about cyclones above anything else I wasn't sure about the state of play with respect to pleated filters.
