    Default Dust Mask

I have been doing a lot of research on the internet this morning comparing two types of dust masks - both are stocked by Carbatec and neither is cheap.

The first is a Trend Airshield Pro for $499

The other is a Dustmaster DM4 Face mask for $995

Is anyone using either of these types of masks and how do you find them in terms of air filtering capacity, life of the filters and battery and comfort when wearing? I need to wear glasses so that is also an issue.

I have had a look at older posts on here (around 2010 and before) and a couple of sites in the UK. I haven't been able to find any recent comments but I am sure they are out there somewhere.

    Your comments would be appreciated.

    Hello

I have the Airshield and like it a lot.

Battery life is good. Haven't timed it but it hasn't gone flat either. Filters work well, when I get to the shed I turn a fair bit of Red Box and the dust from it does terrible things to me. The Airshield stops that.

Fairly comfortable to wear, although, if you wore it all day continuously. it might get a bit heavy, but I don't wear it all day, so not an issue. I don't wear glasses (yet) so can't comment on that side of it.

    Regards

Thanks Oz. I went out and bought one today. How long do the filters last? The manual says 3 months with irregular use. I would be using it for about 3 hours every fortnight.

I reckon 3 months is the outer limit.

Mind you, using it to clean out a grain silo shortened the filter life to hours

I don't know of a scientific way to tell when to change them, praps I should read the destruction manual..........nah

Storing the mask away from dust is a good idea to. I read on the forums somewhere, a member made a dust proof box for the mask to live in when not being used.

They supplied a dust bag with it to store it but I will keep it in the house as there will always be dust floating around the shed (along with break and enter merchants in this part of the woods).
